Default King of the Hill: Round 3

    King of the Hill
    Official Round III

This new round tries to incorporate aspects of fun, fairness of play and interest in one tourney. The two greatest changes are:
    i) The change in map rules, where the antagonist has to attack the King on the King's own turf - i.e. if the King is Germania, then the game must be played in a map like the Nordic Woodlands
ii) The additions of unit restrictions to prevent the overuse of certain units that are considered overpowering in the pecuniary amounts used in this tourney.
Please read all rules carefully before signing up, and I hope you have fun!

    Rules:
    1. One game per challenge
    2. 10000 denarii for each player
    3. Battles must be played on a map with the environment which the faction of the king resides in. Season: Summer; Weather: Calm
4a. After a loss, if the challenger wishes to challenge the King again, his name will be posted at the end of the waiting list.
4b. If there is no one in the waiting list at the time, the challenger must wait for two names to go up before he can reapply.
    5. Players must report results to me via PM, post in this thread, or Xfire (my Xfire is xavierdragnesi)
    6. If a King is inactive and doesn't respond to challenges for more than 3 days, a new King will be appointed from the results of the Prince_of _Macedon's latest tourney
    7. Any challengers must also be ready for their turn. Challengers have a limit of two days to play their game unless an excuse is posted.
    8. The King must stay as the faction that he overthrew the previous king with
    9. Using the borderline of the battlefield as a protective side is not allowed.
    10. Special Rules:
    - Unlimited melee and javelin infantry
    - Unlimited melee and javelin cavalry
    - An army must only have a total of 7 archer related units, of which only 4 can be Chariot or Horse archers.

This round will last for 30 played games, or until a clear winner is decided.

    Ow its on!!!

Bye bye no rules. But since CA didn't balance factions rules are almost necessary. No more HA and CHA spams.

We will see how it works.

Reeve, would you please post your starting faction so that the challengers know what kind of map they will be up against? In the future, because a King has to stay as the faction he won with as shown in Rule 8, so all future players will know what type of map to expect.

This gives an advantage to factions with environment bonuses, should give a bit of thought to that.

Yes I took that into account, and decided that it would be a good bonus challenge for players.

    1) Sign me up to the challenger list, please.

    2) So your faction-category rotation rules have been entirely abandoned?

    3) I have a doubt about the balance between 3 foot-archers and 4 HA. Since the ban on the Cantabrian Circle and Skirmish has been lifted, how else can someone resist the enemy's HAs but with foot-archers? There's just no other way to strike at them effectively. But you need more foot-archers than the enemy has HAs - doesn't this change actually make HAs and Chariot-Archers even stronger than they were before? Wasn't the idea to limit their supremacy?

That is correct. Now that the extra role of special rules has been added, there is no longer such a need for the rotations.

In that case, I shall increase the archer limit to five. But the reason for the 4 HA is due to the fact that factions like Scythia and Parthia rely on them a quite a bit to have a good force against the enemy. And also, the archer limit was cut down due to complaints of overuse of archers in the last round. But I will raise the archer limit to 5

Yes that is fine. There were certainly grassy flatlands in Italy. However, do remember that other options such as Tuscan Bay and Italian Lowlands are also open to you.

Might be fun to state that the used maps must be changed after so many battles, insert number, to make sure that the battles are different every time. Not that they are the same with the same map, but you get my point. I hope.
