Are you in favour of a United Earth?

Are you in favour of a United Earth? The United Nations is (which exists, if not in the way it intended) obviously in support of such a movement. Even the European Union has already brought many of the European nations under one union (mainly economic at this point). The South American Union has recently formed as well. Will it only be a matter of time before we see whole continents bringing together it's nations under one political entity? I think it will happen soon. This increasing globalization could be a good thing for us, or it could be a bad thing. There's ups and downs. After such unions are formed (if they form at all), we might even see a united Earth.

What do you think? Are you in favour of our world united under one leader/body of leadership?

Global federation. In a way, reaching back to history could help us here.
The Holy Roman Empire's internal structure had a very simple, yet successful way of organizing a broad federation. Have the economically strongest and most populous states be members of a high council, with representatives from the other states form subsequent councils in proportion to their economic strength. With a centrally elected leader, albeit not in a single man; rather, that part should be taken from the Swiss model: a committee that serves as a collective chief of state and government.

Agreed. A global federation would be great. Think what we can have if we just disarm ourselves and spend those money in other places!

A "united Earth" is a fundamentally flawed concept. First of all... there is no way you could unite everyone...that is just an impractical idea. Too many people(s) hate each other. Aside from that with the exception of the [well lets face it] insignificant nations: a united earth would require a complete loss of national soveirgnty and that is not something most countries would agree with.

Furthermore... A united earth would result in unprecidented curroption; not to mention that you would basically be condemning the world to socialsm. Countries like the United States, Japan, Germany, France, England, would be forced to use thier industry to prop up countries of Central/South America, Central Asia, and Africa.

Another problem would be the COMPLETE lack of actual political representation. No system of government is perfect..but at least there is the sense that things might actually work...maybe.... the way the people want. As it exists now (in western countries at least) a citizen can expect some degree of representation from an elected offical... but if there is a world government... Do you think that some appointed (or more likely heridetary) official sitting on high somewhere in Europe is going to care what a citizen of Nebraska(US), or Melbourne(Australia) wants...no.

And trust me..there would be no "American" dream...or for that matter British, German, French, Chinese, ect ect ect... there is no coming from nothing to become a leader anymore.... The entire world would become one giant oligarchy.

So no...I would never want a world government... it would be impractical, unwieldly, unbelievably corrupt, and I dont want anything to happen that would take away from my nations sovereignty or identity

Perhaps, but unless i see ID4 event happening, or ww3 where 90-95% of the people die, i don't see a united earth happening, theres to many people to appease, and alot of people will have different views etc etc etc.
