Yes, when Russian police just holds them away from government buildings, american police attacks its own people with tear gas. Freedom of speech and democracy all the way, and spraying unarmed women with tear gas right in the face, is all about it.

see, that's the fun i'm talking about. as a student i justs went demonstrating for the adrenaline. the coppers would show up with the water cannon, and we'd all go: "playmobil, playmobil, playmobil!", and then you better start running when they charge ....

The protesters in this incident could have protested to their hearts content had they not tried to enter the area of Republican convention site.

protesters either bring in upon themselves or do something to provoke

You want to see some countries lax with protests? Go to Western Europe. USA and Russia aren't good examples of Freedom of speech.

Yea right. There are protests and demonstrations in Russia at daily bases but everytime when someone ends up arrested or beaten up we have people screaming here about that...and by Russian laws they were probably in restricted area or they were breaking some other law as well...it's all the same thing. Should I pull this example from the USA and start thread Is USA realy democracy? cause it's police occasionaly beats some protesters. Or should I call republicans Bush's or McCain's Jugend? Keep your labels and tags for your self...

Yet somehow in Russia the opposition members get beaten up brutally or even better, "accidentally" shot in the head by the police after arrest. Comparing the situation in USA and Russia is a joke. Republicans dont have teenage shock troops like Nashi to terrorise foreign embassies when needed.

Police used the gas when dozens of marchers -- most in their 20s, some chanting "F--- the police! F--- the police! F--- 'em!" -- tried to cross a bridge leading to the Xcel Center convention site after being warned not to.

Not being funny but if the police said to me "Do not attempt to cross that bridge - you have been warned" - but otherwise allowed me to continue my protest I would take their advice on board and protest without crossing the bridge I had just been warned not to cross!


As a line of police clad in riot gear and walking with bicycles approached a woman who refused to get out of their way, several sprayed her with a liquid. She covered her eyes with one hand and raised two fingers of the other in the shape of a peace sign .

Again, the police only acted when someone failed to comply with their request. "Get out of the way" is not "be quiet" "stop protesting" or "go away" it is just 'move out of the way so we can pass" - saying no, and then flashing the peace sign as though your refusal to let the police pass and do their job is not heroic or symbolic it's just childish.

If people turn up to these things and ignore the police's requests/orders then yeah, they're going to get a fistful of tear gas - that much is obvious.

What more do I need to say when comparing the treatment of opposition protesters between Russia and USA the best you can do is to start talking about US actions overseas. Somehow trying to compare the treatment of protesters between Russia and USA is and remains a joke.

If you actually think something like that would happen today, I can understand why you insist on comparing USA and Russia and how they treat their protesters. The guy died in 1957, over 50 years ago. You are reaching really.

Thats true, Russia doesnt need anyone to point a terrorist for them, they simply declare everyone in wrong place a terrorist, regards for all who dont remember the ultimatum to Grozny in 1999.
