    Default A latter day miracle..?

    Weirdest thing happened yesterday.

I was stopped in the street by some Mormons who tried to convert me to their faith. Thats not the odd part.

They were explaining that what I had to do to become sure of God's existance was to close my eyes and pray to him - and he would tell me he was there. I gently explained that I wouldn't be putting that much trust in voices I heard in my head and pointed out that if God wanted to make his existence apparent, he could have made the Bible less obscure and he could perform the odd small-scale miracle every now and then to drive the point home.

Anyway. We had a friendly chat and agreed to disagree.

I was in bed last night while my wife was brushing her teeth in the bathroom and I was telling her about the Mormon chat. I was just explaining about the 'prayer proof' and I closed my eyes and cupped my hands in a praying gesture for a second as I said it. At exactly the same moment, my wife's 'phone received a text message which lit up the darkened bedroom. It was from a colleague called Anna Lord.

Now a weaker-minded person might have taken that as a sign! I'd be lying if I said it didn't freak me out for a minute.

    Should I be repenting?!

Isn't Anna Lord a famous movie star?

I might be a bit young but wouldn't mind an intro. In response to circumstance becoming miracle. I think most people have had the experience where they are thinking or speaking of someone who then calls or appears.

The phrase, speak of the devil, itself, is a little scary, now that I think about it.

The thing is, if you list all the possible "signs" you could have recieved. (lightning, a glass breaking, a book falling, a phone call, the tv going out etc. etc.) It is not unreasonable that something would happen that could be interrperated as a "sign". The true test would be to propose a specific sign before hand, or as to see the same sign each time. Then you have something that is a little more solid.

And dude, if Anna Lord is a collegue of your wife, obviously there is no God, as he would not grant such riches upon a heathen such as yourself.

Yeah. Sounds great doesn't it? - but guess who has to do the laundry.

This Anna Lord is obviously paid by the Church of Latter Day Saints to make text messages to people at exactly the right moment - those two Mormons probably slipped a listening device onto you when you were chatting and they were waiting for you to do it as a joke.

Although I am loath to abandon this rich vein of humour while such vast quantities remain to be mined, I think it might be wise to change tack before a moderator happens along.
    I'll allow it

My view on miracles is that every single one is a breach of the free will agreement God made that solves the problem of evil. If he decides to interfere in some situations then all of Christianity comes crashing down in an intense crescendo of shattered images of either an all loving God or an all powerful one.

Both the faithful and the faithless should be happy to believe that there is no such thing as a miracle and there never was. Every one is a nail in the coffin of the all loving, all powerful God.

I believe in a God of miracles.

I believe God answers sincere prayers. The fundamental question is whether or not you believe God can communicate His will to mankind. I know He can.

I agree, I mean nobody prays harder then arab muslims (five times a day + all day friday) and he puts oceans of oil beneath their homelands.

Take it as a sign! Convert heathen! Come on, we may not have coffee but we make up for it with even 'better' cookies.
