    Default Napoleonic Total War Campaign

    I know the mod is already in existence, and I have heard a lot about people wanting to add a campaign to the mod. So my question is, would anyone be interested in this mod? We would only have to add the factions to the game, and we can use the basic campaign map. Thoughts?

    A Napoleonic campaign would end in dissapointment, the AI is so bad, that it would be boring after the first day. Just wait on ETW.

    Problem is the AI doesnt know how to handle gunpowder it wont be able to counter it by uses of other units

    How do you know that the AI respond bad to this kind of era? Have you tried it out personally? If not, let them do this campaign, i would love to!

    The Lordz are amazing, but their mission statement basically is creating multi-player things- They don't seem to have an interest in campaigns-I'm sure, having seen what they have done, that they could do just about anything they feel like doing. Just don't think they FEEL like making a campaign.


    I would absolutely LOVE to see someone make a campaign map for NTW2, since I don't do the whole multi-player thing. I'm sure they would let you do it.

    Oct 30th Addition-

    I just read on the Lordz site that the RTW engine won't let them properly script AI battle formations and such as opposed to Custom/Historical/Multi-player games.

    See it like this:

    Longrange units - Guns
    Siege - Cannons
    Infantry - Infantry
    Cavalry - Cavalry

    Its the same thing, a musketeer division will act like a ranger division and etc. How bad could it be?

    In Napo:TW the battles go on for too long... they stand their for three months trying to kill each other off. If there where anyway to increase the kill speed then Im sure the campaign wouldnt be that bad of an idea.

    the way to do this is by editing the Attack or decrease the HP in the EDU or their armor etc...

    if memory serves right they already do like 30 odd damage. Is'nt the maximum around by 60-80

    It would be a waste time and be better to wait until ETW and create a true Napoleonic Total War Campaign. We only have until Feb and then ETW total war will come out and prehaps by this time next year a Napoleonic Total War mod will be available if it is made hopefully.

    Agreed, Napo:TW is just too slow. And the defence on the intranty units is like 13 already.

    Just wait for Empire:TW however I think it wont be as good as Rome. Till they make Rome II

    The AI is indeed too poor. And yes I've tried it. I was working on an expansion to NTWII called "Colonial: Total War" Based on the War of 1812 and South American Liberation wars.

    In testing, I had to fight the AI, and the gameplay was terrible.

    A) Skirmish mode- this can be worked around by making the infantry heavy missile throwing infantry that do not charge after release. Hence they will fire till they are out of munitions and then charge. However, it's still poor in that instead of withdrawal when out of ammo, they will charge you, and make it into a melee fest.

    B) Tactics- The RTW tactical AI will mean that instead of infantry advancing and artillery supporting, you will have cavalry charge at the onset, the infantry gaggle forward and the artillery be left defenseless far to the rear. Meaning the player would have to form a solid line, cannister the enemy infantry after the line throwing back the initial and predictable cavalry charge, then your own cavalry flank the artillery and charge the infantry's rear. Mass Route within moments.

    C) Campaign issues- the balances and so on of the AI will create armies of national guard and cuirassiers and throw them at you time and again. The interventionist forces of the time (British in Spain and so on) will be impossible- you'd have to code British units for the Portuguese in one-of spawned armies, using valuable model slots (though this can be worked around thanks to the Roma Surrectum team, by slotting them as Mercenaries).

    There would be a large advantage to waiting for ETW, and in the meantime playing good MTW2 mods such as For King or Country, that include muskets. It is a shame no one including the Lordz made a musket mod for MTW2, but it is as it is.
    Yes, I hate the fact RTW is out and I still have a Japanese title. Come on now admins- let's get with the program.
