ok lol i was about to post asking for help but on my third try it worked. I was getting the same exact message as in the screenshot of the first post. The missing file it refers to is actually on disk 2. My guess is that possibly vista had trouble figuring out that it needed to prompt disk 2. Of course my reasoning could be wrong. Anyway my advice is to just keep trying to install assuming there isnt any other solution.
Is disc2 scratched or dirty? That would keep it from reading it. I had Rome on a Vista system with no problems so I don't blame Microfoft, yet. Did you delete all traces of Rome from your system including the virtual sore? Did you afterward run a registry cleaner to get out the garbage? As Brusilov said, did you look here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ght=reinstall?
How about here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ght=reinstall?
Vista? More than you want know: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=89969.
Seek and ye shall find. It just takes a little effort. I just pulled up all these links in less than five minutes and the only word I used was "install".
well it isnt a disk problem or if anything its a Disk 1 problem as the installer gives me that error message instead of prompting to put in disk two which is what its supposed to do at that pt.
I have to thank you for your efforts some of these threads i did see some i hadnt. The main thing that leads me to believe that it isnt a registry problem or virtual store problem is that I was getting this error message the first time I tried to install (RTW had never been installed before).
Looking at disk 1 its got a bit of dust or a scratch in this one spot. Ive had bad experiences trying to clean disks myself so ill try and see if my old comp can read it first.
edit: actully ill try that cd check thing first lol

I've never really had to edit the registry. The following is a link to the 'Solutions to Common Problems' where the process is shown (for RTW 1.2)....
