    Default Pikeman's use?

The pikeman is essentially for being the shield to cavalry charges but other than that what happens if infantry charges and what happens in melee combat?

I have seen hospitalliers stopped by a spear wall in Deus Lo Vult.

Well, I lost that battle, but I checked that pikemen are better than I thought.

In vanilla, the pikemen will switch to their second weapon when engaged with infantry and well... get their asses whooped.

Honestly, I've never seen use for pikemen. The computer charges directly into them, don't die and kill the pikemen. I only use them for filling up space in my armies to make them more intimidating - and cannon fodder, of course.

I mostly use them as strictly defensive unit.I ussualy place them behind gates, so when I`m defending castle and gates are down, enemy cavalry charges directly into spear wall. The problem with pikemen is that they switch to their swords too fast tho.

For those playing with pikemen swords still in, there's a fairly easy solution. When you want them to go back to pikes, remove them from spearwall, wait a second, put them back in spearwall, and then tell them to attack with right click (don't let them auto-select targets).

It's also best to keep them in guard mode.
