Default Is the US trying to rule the world?

Is the US trying to rule the world, or are a bunch of misguided conspiracy theorists just looking for someone else to hate now that the USSR is gone?

America can't function without the Soviet Union, they can't be allies but they can't be enemies, so it would be better if one was gone but both need to be there so...I am confused.

During the Cold War the world was bipolar. There were basically two power bases for countries to align themselves with. It kept the tensions frozen and maintained status quo, until one or the other would fall. Once the Soviets came down, the US was the only superpower obviously, but that meant an entirely new foreign policy approach for the US and everyone else. Countries would either "bind" themselves to US power, in order to further their own, or they would distance themselves from it in order to gain power by filling the vacuum left by the collapse of the USSR

They just have more firepower than the rest of the world combined so they try to force their hegemony. It's completely logic for a powerful nation to want to impose it's rule.
    Good? No! But's human nature.
Partially true, but the US does not have a "rule" because they are not a hegemon.

Read 1984 and you will understand why

"Oceania needs to always be at war with Eurasia*"

for those that havn't read it i will rephrase it

"America need to always be at war with Russia"

It all depends on this election. If McCain wins (unlikely), then we can expect 4 more years of America using its muscle to have its way, just like the last 8 years. If Obama wins (pray he does), then we can expect America to begin to use its brain and rightfully take its place as a member of the community of nations.

I personally (just as many other Russians) view Obama as an american version of Gorbatchev. while McCain only reminds me on one of those old fart commie secretary generals, who want to preserve the old failing system.

Yes, Obama even has a facial blemish the way Gorbie does....you just can't see it on his dark skin.

No, we are not... its as simple as that... the main propoant of the evil US theory are Americans who hate their own country or uninformed (not stupid) Europeans whose only news on the United States comes from biased news orginizations or anti- American orginizations *cough* the UN *cough*

But let me play this game for a while...

IF we wanted to rule the world....it would be ours..... in fact it could have been ours after World War II... as the winners we could have asserted right of the victor to annex and control a whole list of countries...including Italy, Germany, Japan, Finland, Thailand, ect... (I chose to ignore the ones the USSR would have gotten to first...Romania, Slovakia ect)

Also...lets look at our own continent...I mean really...whose gonna stop us...Canada? I love my northern brothers..but really now does anyone really think they could stand up to us....

Finally...and this connects to another issue (US Imperialism)... We are not an imperialist nation....anyone who argues that obviously doesnt know what actual imperialism is.... But if we wanted to... we could have controlled basically the entire south pacific...the caribbean, and the whole of North Africa... but we didnt... (we have have a few holdings in the areas I listed) but compare that to the British, French, Spanish, Germans, Portaguese, "Dutch", those were imperialist nations......

Modern day imperialism is not as obvious as the past, the US set up either puppets regimes or 'really friendly' government everywhere, and they do intervene in other countries affairs (which is against the UN law) and think that protecting other countries is important, they just want oil or a strategic spot next to a rival.

Also...lets look at our own continent...I mean really...whose gonna stop us...Canada? I love my northern brothers..but really now does anyone really think they could stand up to us....

    +1 to you, Oglethorpe.

If the USA was truly imperialistic they would long have annexed parts of Mexico and Canada, would have long invaded several south american countries, would have made afgh and iraq US territories or even states, would not have tolerated the stuff in Georgia at all and would have attacked Russia there etc etc.

Guess what, the more countries are peaceful, western, democratic, the better for them and everyone else.

which is against the UN law
Nobody ever cared about UN law - a law without any military, economic or any other back-up. UN is even weaker than the EU as an organization, that says enough.
