    Default Modding Mercs

    Hi, can someone tell me a way to mod the Elephant Merc to make it appear more often ( a LOT more often) in the Carthaginian provinces?

    Oh cool, my first go at helping somebodies problem, instead of posting my own.
    Find the descr_mercenaries.txt file, in your campaign folder.
    Back it up first!
    Scroll down to this entry:
    pool North_Africa
    regions Mauretania Numidia Gaetulia Sahara
    unit merc libyan infantry, exp 0 cost 350 replenish 0.1 - 0.15 max 2 initial 1
    unit merc numidian cavalry, exp 1 cost 750 replenish 0.1 - 0.15 max 2 initial 1
    unit merc balearic slingers, exp 0 cost 750 replenish 0.03 - 0.05 max 1 initial 0
    unit merc elephants, exp 0 cost 4000 replenish 0.005 - 0.015 max 1 initial 0

    On the merc elephants entry, simply increase the values after the replenish bit, the higher the number, the more likely they will spawn.
    Similarly, increasing max and initial increase the maximum amount of units and the starting amount of units available.
    Once you've changed it, save and exit. Then delete the map.rwm file.

    You can also increase the max and inital tags, by making it:
    unit merc elephants, exp 0 cost 4000 replenish 0.005 - 0.015 max 6 initial 4

    Alright, thanks, I'll give it a try. Btw, by deleting the map.rwn file, do I have to do that EVERYTIME I want to play a game, or just once?

    You do it everytime you change sth related to the map.

    No, I mean, I heard it like replenished itself after every game, so before running the game, I have to delete it.

    Are you running any mods that change the map? Or did you edit the map yourself?

    map.rwm holds a compilation of the game/mod's map data. Indeed the game regenerates it when it doesn't exist or it is blank, but you don't have to delete it, unless you change sth in the map, so you want the new data to be included in the compiled package (ie the map.rwm)

    I see.... so... thanks for all the help, rep all around!

    BTW, is it possible to change what provinces merc's appear in? For instance, if I wanted to add say HA mercs to.... ermm... Spain. Is that possible? (I know not accurate, but its just an example)

    Hi, I want to mod merc upkeep costs but not affect AOR costs in RTR, how would I go about doing this?

    If the merc units have their own export_descr_unit entries (so that the same edu slot isn't used for both an aor-unit and a merc-unit) you can simply increase the third value of the stat_cost line of the unit's entry in the file. If the entry is shared, then there's no way you can mod one and leave the otehr as it is.
