A 23-year-old student is still on death row in Afghanistan, nine months after being found guilty of blasphemy for downloading an article on women and Islam.

I know the owner, I wrote some articles for the English version of his site. We're all very upset that he has not yet been freed.

Actually, I would rather have it controlled by Stalin then go through the American invasion. The people there are MUCH worse off then they were before. This news is more hypocracy. The sad fact is, if the government were secular, the insurgency would be 10 times larger. Islam has poisoned the minds of so many afghans and made them bigots, I hardly think the West is to blame for that.

Under their rule this student would've been executed by AK-47 in front of a crowd in a soccer stadium-come-execution arena with no trial, and no time in detention (if the Taliban hadn't banned computers). The Afghans are and were among the least educated, and still are one of the poorest countries in the world, they are comparable to the some of the worst African countries such as Swaziland. It's easy to poison those who know nothing, and will believe anything.

Absolutely, the Taliban knows this, that's why they burn text books, and raid convoys delivering school supplies, that's also why they attack schools and teachers. Over 500 schools had to be closed because of Taliban attacks.

Why are those relevent to this thread? Back on topic, i'd also like to know if people have signed the petition or not. Please, at least sign the petition, but even better than would be to call your foreign affairs office, or the Afghan embassy and tell them you want his release.

It's become a better than place than pre-invasion Afghanistan. If you think it's present government is more abusive read up some books on Afghanistan under the Taliban.
