Dutch Paper: U.S. Will Attack Iran in Weeks

The largest newspaper in the Netherlands, De Telegraaf, reported this past weekend that its nation's intelligence agency has been working closely with the CIA to help prepare the U.S. in a planned air attack on Iran.


The front-page story in De Telegraaf, published Friday and headlined "Attack on Iran Imminent," claimed that U.S. military strikes on Iran's nuclear and weapons facilities would happen in weeks.


The paper indicated Holland's military intelligence service (Algemene Inlichtingen-en Veiligheidsdienst, or AIVD), has pulled back from its operations inside Iran helping the U.S. to identify targets.


De Telegraaf reports that the decision has already been made by the U.S. to attack Iran using unmanned aircraft, hence the Netherlands' decision to remove its agents.


Excerpts from De Telegraaf follow:


"Good sources have declared to the Telegraaf that the AIVD Algemene Inlichtingen- en Veiligheidsdienst has been operating in Iran for the last few years with the purpose of the infiltration and sabotage of the weapons industry of the Iranian republic.

"The operations are said to have been 'very successful' but have recently been put to a halt because of American plans for an air attack. Information regarding the AIVD operation has been shared with the CIA in recent years, according to the sources.


"Iran is believed to be working towards an atomic bomb and refuses to comply to Western demands to stop enriching uranium. In June Israeli vice president Shaul Mofaz made the statement that an Israeli attack is inevitable if Iran continues its quest for atomic weapons."

Yes the belief is not a good excuse, you can't even be sure that they would even use it if they had one and if anyone wants anything to change positivly in Iran I think its best to let it happen graduly. You can't act upon the suspicion of a threat unless its definitely life threatening.

Understand that any attack on Iran, even just a handful of tactical strikes at key sites, will be met by a response in our own countries. particularly in Britain if and when we support the attack.

But *IF* those in power rate that circumstance as less damaging than Iran having a nuke, or if they fear that emmigration would destroy Israel by those leaving in fear of Iran being nuke capable, then Israel will attack.

Not the US though, it won't happen.

Its Iran dude, radical traditional Sunnist Muslims dont care about them. There will be backlashes if there is invasion against Saudi Arabia, Egypt or Syria.

Its one the most crappiest newspaper of the country, the article is full of assumptions/mistakes and I do not see Dutch Intelligence working in Iran. They are simply not allowed to, let alone they have the skills. Not the country's best and brightest....

However the newspaper has a new editor in chief, sales are dropping, and voila bogus stories. Probably a intelligence member having a talk in a bar with a very unproffesional journalist. And having a good laugh now.

There is no chance the US is going to attack Iran.

Their military is too comitted in Iraq and Afghanistan. And there is the small matter of Russia and their sabre-rattling to think about. If there is a war in the gulf, watch the oil price go through the roof.

Exactly, if not now then when else? Time is running out for Bush to wage another war in his desperate attempt to leave a legacy.

It'll take America weeks just to pull together troops, armaments, and the ships needed to attack Iran effectively. And we'll know it when we see 200,000 additional troops, with a thousand tanks move to Iraq/Afganastan in the buildup.

Unless they mean an airstrike on their nuclear facilities, then we'd probably just use our allies in israel to do that just like we did with Syria.
