    Default map overhaul in SS

    Hello to everyone,

my first post in this forum.

Congrats to Kong and Co for this wonderful mod. It's the first time in a about a year, that I really enjoy playing M2TW again.

Now to my thread title: As you might have noticed the (otherwise very nice) map seems to be a bit non-realistic concerning the starting positions of the factions. Especially Byzantium in the late era shouldn't posess Constantinople since it was then controled by the Latins (Venetians, Franks).

Since I'm no modder at all , at least I'd liked to support your effort with a link to a site with scanned maps of medieval (and other) times: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/historical/

Perhaps you can make use of it.

A 1080 map would be useful...

This is closest I could find. Pretty much no rebels plus some factions seriously unbalanced (Moors, HRE, Seljuks) while others would be only beating candidates (Portugal, Denmark).

We can't do historic map and still have a fun game to play.

moving the start date to 1100 would address certain map inconsistences.

other minor adjustments could be made, but I think we're stuck with the overall balance for this iteration of stainless steel.

(if you want save game compatibility we'll have to stick to what there is, especially as major map changes may have a knock-on effect with some sub-mods.)
