Honestly, given that this is Russia we're talking about, is this even news? It would be news if something like this didn't happen in Russia! The owner of a website in Ingushetia, known for his criticism against the regime in Kremlin, was shot to death on Sunday, shortly after being detained by the Russian Police, The Independent informs. Magomed Yevloyev, owner of www.ingushetiya.ru was a renowned journalist and critic of the way Russia manages the Ingushetia region. On Sunday, the Police took Yevloyev into custody as he was stepping out of an airplane coming from Moscow to Nazran, the Ingushetia capital. Shortly after the departure, the journalist was shot in the head. "They threw his body near the hospital", said Kaloi Akhilgov, a lawyer for the website, according to Reuters.
Magomed Yevloyev is one of the most high-profile journalists to be killed in Russia since investigative reporter Anna Politkovskaya was shot dead near her Moscow apartment in 2006, provoking condemnation of Russia's record on media freedom.
