Same problem I have seen with other new aar's. Too little text between to big screenshots. In my opinion this messes up the lay-out, and disturbs the reading process. Either add more text with details of fighting that you can't put into the pics OR extend the action that you see on the pic.
Also, decrease the size of the pic, big pics are nice, but you are better off with 17" pics in my opinion. Good size, nice detail while not taking up too much space.

Other than that, your aar is good. Just so you know.
Every time you , god kills another kitten.
If you're gonna hire Machete to kill the bad guy, you better make damn sure the bad guy isn't YOU!

The complete saga of the Battle of Lugar
    ************************************************************************

Spring 215BC the army of Hannibal is terrorizing southern Italy. Rome is in chaos as everyone fears that Hannibal will attack Rome herself. Not since the days of unifying Italy has Rome been in such danger of being destroyed by an invading army.

The Roman armies have been defeated time and time again by Hannibal most notably at the battle of Cannae. However despite the Roman's many defeats they continue to fight against Hannibal.

The Senate has ordered the general Marcus Julius to take his army to southern Italy and engage and destroy Hannibal. Marcus had been in the north fighting against raiding Gauls', but now he must go and fight a very different enemy the Carthaginians.

As Marcus marched his army south he was confident he would win, because he had defeated the Gaul's so many times he was over confident in his abilities.

March 15th 215BC Southern Italy near the village of Lugar

the army of Marcus Julius deployed out in the traditional three line formation

on the other side of the field Hannibal deployed his army in a line formation with his cavalry and elephants on the flanks, as well a supporting light infantry

As Marcus was in no hurry to start the battle He ordered his troops to stand there ground. Hannibal however fearing that the weather could become worse ordered his army forward.

The battle of Lugar is about to begin

It is March 15th 215BC near the village of Lugar in Southern Italy. The armies of Marcus Julius and Hannibal are engaging in battle, for the Romans hope the last time.

Now as Hannibal's army crosses the field towards Marcus Marcus prepares to wage a defensive battle. His plan to deal with the Carthaginians was his same plans for dealing with Gauls. This would be a major blunder on Marcus' part.

as Hannibal marched his army forward he ordered his cavalry out and try to hit the Romans on the flank

Marcus saw this and he ordered his cavalry out to counter the Carthaginian Cavalry

The Roman cavalry swings out from behind the Roman line and rushes toward the Carthaginian Cavalry. Then the two Cavalry forces meet in an epic crash. A bone shattering roar erupts as men and horses slam into each other.

Just as on the Roman right flank Roman cavalry moves out to engage the Carthaginians who are trying to turn there left flank.

The fighting on both flanks is extremely intense. Many die in the Hellish fighting on the flanks of the Roman army. As Hannibal watched his Cavalry and the Romans fight themselves into a stalemate he orders his infantry into a full charge on the Roman main battle line.

The Roman Hastarii prepare to take to the charge of the Carthaginians. The Roman officers shout out encouragement to the men telling them that they could not be beat, that they had broken the Gauls dozens of times and this would be no different.

The Carthaginians thunder toward the Roman line. The Romans Make ready to throw their pila. The volley of Pila rains down death and destruction on the Carthaginians.

After the Romans expended there Pila they drew there short swords and brace themselves for the impact of the Carthaginian army. The Carthaginians wildly threw themselves upon the Roman line. The initial impact caused many a Roman and Carthaginian to get killed.

However now the the Roman main line was pinned by Carthaginian infantry Hannibal dispatches many battalions of reserve infantry and cavalry into the fight on the Roman Left flank. The Romans were being over run on the left, but Marcus hesitated and did not send Reserves over to the left. He thought it might be a trick and Hannibal really intended to punch through the Roman center.

However it was not a trick and Hannibal was gambling his entire plan on breaking the Roman left flank. Back on the Roman Right things were a different story the Roman infantry was holding well, but Hannibal ordered a battalion of his elephants forward to attack the Roman right. The Romans were in luck however, because the commander of the elephants thought Hannibal wanted him to skirmish with the Romans not charge into them. Now the Roman veliets could engage the and destroy the elephants.

The battle was still very open to who would walk away the victor. Both the Romans and the Carthaginians were fighting very hard, but the Carthaginians were overwhelming the Roman left, and Hannibal was sending his other battalion of elephants over to engage the Roman left.

Marcus finally decided the attack on his left was no diversion, and he sent two cohorts of his Triarii over to engage the Carthaginians attacking his left flank.

but would the two cohorts of Triarii be enough to hold the Roman left, or will the left flank be overrun find out next time

It is March 15, 215BC Southern Italy near the village of Lugar The armies of Hannibal of Carthage and Marcus Julius of Roman are engaging in a battle that could end the 2nd Punic War. The two armies have been fighting for a good while now, and the battle is ready to pick its victor.

The two cohorts of Triarii Marcus dispatched to the Roman left are now on the verge of entering the Fray. Hannibal ordered his men that are attacking the Roman left to keep pushing forward despite the Roman reinforcements. Also he ordered his 2nd and final battalion of Elephants to engage the Roman left.

As the elephants entered the battle the Roman Triarii make there charge at the Carthaginians. the fighting was ferocious as both sides struggled to gain the upper hand, but because of the Elephants the Carthaginians began to gain the upper hand again.

At the Roman center the fighting was just as heavy, but it was not going well for the Carthaginians. Hannibal had thrown a lot of his troops into the fight on the Roman left, so he didnt have many infantry reserves to fight the Roman center, so improvising he sent some of his remaining cavalry right into the Roman center.

The soldiers fought frantically each one trying to stay alive but at the same time kill as many enemies as he possibly could. The air was filled with the sounds of metal striking metal, screams of the wounded, the cries of the men fighting, and the terrible roar of the Carthaginian Elephants.

Each side pushed and shoved at each other trying to push the other line back. Hannibal has engaged all of his troops. He had no more reserves, so if part of his line failed he could not reinforce it. Marcus however still had one reserve cohort of Triarii left.

As the fighting continued the Roman left began to waver under the attack of Carthaginian infantry, cavalry, and elephants. Marcus saw this and he took up his sword and cried out

    "To the left flank men!!"
Marcus, his body guard, and the last unit of Triarii rushed over to the left flank for one last effort to hold the Carthaginians back.

Even with the reinforcements the Roman left flank crumbled under the assaulting Carthaginians. Marcus could see that the battle was begining to turn in favor of Carthage

It didnt take much longer before the Roman left was turned. The Roman line was now crumbling as it had no left flank. Hannibal seeing the Roman left fail ordered his troops onward and cried out to his men, "The Romans can not beat us we are invincible!! the gods are on your side men so push forward and destroy these Roman dogs!!!"

Marcus watched as the left flank of his army was underly destroyed my the on slotting Carthaginians. Just as Marcus thought things couldnt get any worse a cavalry officer rode up to him and told him the the right flank had failed to hold the Carthaginian cavalry.

Marcus was struck with fear not for his men who were still desperately trying to beat back the Carthaginians, but for himself as he thought he could be killed or worse taken prisoner. Marcus watched in horror as his army was being slowly destroyed, and instead of charging into the battle to die with honor he turned and retreated from the battle leaving his men to there fate.

Hannibal took advantage of the routing Roman right flank and ordered his cavalry there to form up and charge into the Roman main battle line. The affect of the cavalry charge was devastating to the Roman's, as they could not turn and properly defended them selfs against the cavalry charge.

Even after both of there flanks had been turned the Romans bravely fought on. The Carthaginians pushed forward with out mercy and cut down any Roman. Carthage would not take any prisoners.

The Romans continued to fight on for 15 more bloody minutes before they couldnt hold any longer and broke and ran before they were completely surrounded by the Carthaginians.

The battle of Lugar lasted just about three hours from when the Carthaginians first started to advance to when the last Roman routed off the field. Thousands of motionless bodies lay on the field. The grass was wet from the blood of the dead and dying. the terrible cries and whimpers of the wounded range out upon the now otherwise silent field of battle.

Carthaginians moved around the field gathering there dead and wounded comrades. They left the Roman wounded to a long agonizing death.

The rain began to wash the blood away, but it did nothing for the swarms of flies, birds, and other creatures that wanted to feast on the many dead.

Hannibal ordered his army to regroup just behind where the battle had taken place. The rain began to come down heavily by night fall, and that was when Hannibal wandered out onto the field to look upon the dead. Though he would never admit to it he was deeply saddened by all of the killing and it made him sick looking at the dead, even the dead Romans. Hannibal went to his tent and wept for both the Carthaginian and Roman dead, while he wept the Carthaginians calibrated there great and hard won victory.

In the Roman camp things were very different, the remaining Romans silently ate, tended to their wounds, and slept. Marcus was know where to be found back at the Roman camp however.

Marcus retreated back from the battle. He did not stop at the camp but continued on his road North to his villa in Northern Italy just south of the border. Marcus would only stop in small villages on his way back home to buy food and drink for himself. He did this to minimize the chances of anyone recognizing who he was, also he know longer proudly wore his armor, but instead wore a simple tunic. His trip back to his home did not take more than two weeks. Once he arrived back home he locked himself is his room and wept about loosing the battle and leaving his men to there fate.

The Spring turned to Summer, and Summer to fall. Marcus has spent many long painful months back at his villa. As the weather began to turn cold Marcus felt even colder inside. Every night he would replay the battle and the days leading up to the battle in his dreams, and every time he watched himself turn and run away before the battle had ended.

Over the months Marcus had most of his lands and titles. This even furthered his depression. The only thing he had left was his villa and servants. Marcus grew fat as he tried to eat and drink away his sorrow. Often he move around in his house in a mad drunken rage beating and cursing his servants. At night he could be seen looking into the sky cursing and blaming the loss of the battle on the pagan Roman gods. This went on and on until is was December.

    December 3rd
Marcus sat on his bed in his room. He wore, as best he could, his old military uniform. He silently sobbed and looked down at his lap where he held his sword that the Senate had given him a year ago as recognition of his many victories against the Gauls. Marcus took the sword in both hands and place the tip of the blade on his stomach. In a weak voice he said, "Forgive me" and with all his strength he shoved the sword deep into his belly. Marcus let out a cry of pain and fell backwards onto the bed. Blood poured out of his wounded onto him and his bed. Marcus drifted away. The intense pain was gone and was replaced with a ice cold feel across his body. For the fist time in many long months a smile appeared on Marcus's face, and he died. moments later his servants crashed into his room to find out the source of the scream, but they found Marcus laying on his bed with his sword stuck in him and his hands still grasping the sword.
