Default What is considered dishonourable and honourable in battle?

At the end of battles I'll sometimes get dread or chivalry but I don't know how. Is there a list somewhere telling you how to get certain traits without cheating? Oh and I don't mean through exterminating/occupy or execute/release I mean tactics/strategy during battle.

If he runs he gets dread i think
Also depends on the amount of prisoners actually taken, i suppose?

I think if you use your general in combat (like I do ), he might get more dread just because he is personally killing people. I imagine if you actually use restraint and hold him back and combine that with occasionally releasing prisoners, his chivalry will probably go up slightly.

I never really bother with dread or chivalry. To me, whatever wins the battle in the end of the day works for me.

I think that if your general inflicts losses to the enemy his dread raises but as he raises the moral of his troops his chivary goes up, not sure but that seems like the most reasonable answer i can think of right now.

    To avoid dread two trips:

Don't run down people who are retreating.

Select End Battle Now when promoted. The enemy get more troops out of the conflict zone, but you don't get dread.

I always thought it had something to do with the Battle Odds. If they were against you, it's chivalrous, and if they're massively in your favour it adds dread.

Musthavename, you have a good point then, i think i remember reading that somewhere. Might try it in my byzantine campaign.

the obvious one is dont run down routing enemies. Maybe fighting 'dishonourably' could include using archers a lot or cavalry charges? Maybe the chivalrious way you fight is normal hand do hand combat, i don't know if that would be taken into affect.

back in the days it was considered very dishonnourable and even a reason to be excommed if you used crossbows against christian (knights). Personally I think it is a matter of point of view. InGame there is nothing dishonourable, except negotiations with Milan!

    Hahahahaaahhh... + rep Samir

only running people down and not ending the battle when you can gives dread. Killing 80+ prisoners gives dread. Releasing 80+ prisoners gives + chivalry. Ransoms give neither. Occupying gives chiv. Exterminating gives dread. Sack gives neither. Low taxes gives chiv. High taxes give dread. Normal gives neither Assassins give dread. (no counter for assassins.) Bribes give dread (Taxes, assassins, and bribes add to the same dread pool). Some Holy relics give chiv. but the Ark of the Covenant (yes it IS in the game) and maybe some others give dread.

Remember that once you have battle dread or battle chiv. you can't get the other kind if it goes over 2 with out cheating. Some of the triggers (was to get) dread and chiv. in battle are the same, but battle dread triggers happen first. If you don't get the battle dread you get the battle chiv.

That's most of them except the loyalty ones, and I seitrously don't know how to get those. Oh and going on Crusades gives chivalry for random areas. Sometimes just joining one gives you battle chiv.

Double A made a very comprehensive list. Plus, attacking and winning battles with odds in your favour as well as high kill rates increase BattleDread. Defending and winning battles with odds against you and low kill rates increase BattleChivalry IIRC.

Yeah I think exterminating the enemy force causes dread. But what do you do to have chivalry points?
