    Icon9 What is going on?

Playing the Danes, on M/M with BGR3 and RC, joined the Crusade called on Cairo. Anyway sent my faction heir with an army of regular and mercenaries. Travelled by land thru HRE, Polish, Hungarian, Byzantine and Seljuk turf. I went to go thru the gap between Adana and Antioch, when I was ambushed, who subsequently retreated from battle. I was expecting a large group of rebels or even a Seljuk army. Not at all, I was attacked by the Knights Templar! They refused to move and went another way after a couple of turns which resulted in my army deserting. Picked up from last save and this time, diverted and swang around Aleppo and down, about an extra two turns of movement and lost half my army to desertion as I did not want to fall over the Templar again. I understand that you cannot attack Catholic Factions whilst your on Crusade, but It would appear that non-Crusading catholics can attack you. This is ridiculous, Pope did not raise any eyebrow.
On a different subject, does BGR3 and RC, make you cash rich, compared to last non-BGR3 and RC campaign at same point treasury is 4 times the size.
I took Cairo in the end recruited some Saracens and Tribesman, but now I have the full might of the Fatimids, being thrown at me.

    Hey Joe,

I do not know Crusades, crusades - all is possible with them. I think you should think about how it happened in history - all sorts of things can happen, some random..

We all use cruasdes for cheap conquest, to saving money etc, occassionally, things will just happen.

Maybe the Knights just had a baddddd day & deciced togives you a good kicking!

Also, we all know that the desertion situation in MTW/SS is not perfect but then it must have been likes that in real life....

My advice, just accept it as one of those randome events...

You should have used a boat. I usually go somewhere around Venice, pick a boat there and sail to the Holy Land, takes 3 turns instead of 15 while going on foot.

    Delra,

I tried that before using the Land route for a second time. I went down to bottom of Greece, recruited a couple of Galleys, chose not to get on board. Good decision, some Pirates, jumped them sank both, good job the army was not on board.

Well, you can enter boats in Italy, land on Crete at the end of the turn, then hop to Rhodos on the next turn. Then hop to Cyprus. And from Cyprus land in the Holy Land. If they sink your fleet, you can always hire a new one and your army is safe in the land.

That's what Richard did (Sicily -> Cyprus -> Holy Land).
