Default Why does the AI break it's formations constantly?

Does anyone know what specifically needs to be edited in the AI files to prevent the AI from breaking it's formation and crashing units through one another. All I want to do is make the AI stay in formation, advance in formation until they get to within x meters of the enemy, and after a certain number of shots, engage in melee. Is the AI so entirely broken that this is impossible for it to line up an army and march them forward in a straight line until they are parallel with the player?

Afterall, what's the point of having a formation if the AI goes from 100% formatted to 100% mess in less than 3 seconds?

The data/battle_config.xml file affects how units skirmish and charge (along with siege equipment movement and how long you need to hold the town center for). Changing 'wall reform' and 'unformed-charge' parts may fix your problem.

Also the data/config_ai_battle.xml file affects how the AI attacks.
