The difference between the late era and early era campaigns is that the late era starts later (1220AD) and you start with a more advanced empire. Plus you can play the Mongols, Kingdom of Jerusalem (replaces templars) and the Teutonic Order

All the rosters are the same. You are just missing 100 years of militia fighting fun.

OH ok, so if I play the early period it will evolve into early period?
So the only reason I should play High period is that if I want to be mongols or something.

The Turks are Seljuk Turks, with Ottoman infantry? Whats up with that, do they turn Ottomans ever?

No. That'd take up an extra faction slot.

Why don't they just name it The Turks then :x

and if I'm playing early period
I get teutonics/templar but not jerusalem and mongols
Which one do you guys reckon is better to have? The Mongols or what?
I'd hate the Teutonics to have raped entire Europe before my Janissaries/Mamluks can come and clean it up, I don't mind Mongols at my door though. However the losing 100 years of game play doesnt really appeal.

Anyways, which is better faction to start of playing with English/Turks?

Which is better? Which would you rather hear first the eastern or western music? I believe the late era campaign is turnwise a little longer, so your just missing the militia spearmen hour & building stuff from the ground up.

Try one if it does'nt feel right go for the other.

Slowly yes. But you won't have KoJ and Mongols. Teutonic Order will be spawned though.

Cause they were Seljuks at the beginning of the game and for the most of it (up to Mongols emergence which devastated them and for a century after that).

Seljuk Sultanate of Rum to be exact. Rum meaning Rome in Arabic. So they are impostors just like HRE. :-)

Many people like starting from scratch...

For example after 60 turns with Poland, Magdeburg is a Fortress in most of my games and very close to citadel. When you start a late era campaign, no way you could be that close to it...

But both campaigns end in the same year right?

Also if I want to edit one of the units stats what do i do?

as to the late and early campaign, the difference is KOJ replaces templars in late and the factions you can play as are a little different. settlements are also built up some and starting provinces are differnt. so basically play late if you want to skip most of the militia taking rebel settlments part of the game. and the turn length is adjusted so that the late campaign is about (or maybe exactly) the same length as the early one

Why not just try them and see if you like them? Everyone has a different opinion of what they like and everyone has a different playstyle. Try them and see if they suit yours

Actually I played the Turks twice in the vanilla, and it was a varied experience. I wondered if they were different in the new one.

I considered playing Egypt which I played in Vanilla on SS, however I've noticed cavalrys stats are no longer that relevant and Qapukulu could easily match Khassakis now.

Janissarys not that elite? Have they been nerfed? If so I might play a European faction. I've never finished a Catholic faction before in vanilla.

You have jihads, you have good cavalry roster plus some decent infantries too. You get Neffatun, second deadliest unit in the game (after flamethrowers). You have nice starting position. You aren't a map border faction anymore so it's even more fun.

You fight Byzantine, Kiev, Cumans, Templars, Fatimids and Khwarezm (at once!) so you have some diversity of enemies you're facing.

What I don't like about them, they look very bad, skins are just horrible. And like I said Janissaries aren't that elite at all.

Their best unit is hybride archer, Ottoman Infantry, you're going to love it. You're also going to love your starting castle Ceasarea cause you can launch jihads directly from there and traverse your giant empire very fast. Orthodox can't do that at all, Christians can't do that that easily.

Only downside of turks I found was no decent heavy inf, as they don't have any AP and as previously stated the janissarys aren't all that good either. Can't be good at everything tho

They have Hasham, standard 7/21 swordsmen if they hold Baghdad. And... that's all.

They rely more on cavalry and archers really. Ottoman Infantry + Qapukulu mix is deadly. You don't need much besides those.
