    Default Why isn't denmark excommunicated?

We are to cease hostilities, if I attack one of them I get excommunicated, but they've attacked 2 of my armies, tried to siege one of my settlements and is blockading 2 of our ports, yet they're not excommunicated. I have 10 stars and outstanding relations with the papacy, they have 5 stars and bad reputation.

Now they just sieged nyköping, again with no consequences.. ing hell.

Oh nevermind, the pope just excommunicated them.

Just wondering does the mission from the pope explicitly say you will get excommunicated or does it just say your relations will suffer? I don't mean what happens when you click to attack and you get the screen warning of excommunication. (If it's the former you actually won't get excommed). Also, has Denmark annoyed the pope a lot recently or just done nothing? If they haven't annoyed him, they might merely recieve a warning and lose relations at worst.

I always get excommunicated by the guy in the funny hat, even if I do bribe him a bit.

"Five had been his brothers. Oswell Whent and Jon Darry. Lewyn Martell, a prince of Dorne. The White Bull, Gerold Hightower. Ser Arthur Dayne, Sword of the Morning. And beside them, crowned in mist and grief with his long hair streaming behind him, rode Rhaegar Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone and rightful heir to the Iron Throne."

I have done more than bribe him "a bit", payed him over 200k now I think, 10-15k every few turns when I need to exterminate catholic faction, I like having 10 stars, money is not a problem tho, been around a million for the past 30-40 turns.

He should be my by now, but still tells me to do this and that.

Woah, how on earth do you make that money? Or you got some medieval mafia going round? And why pay him so much? Use that money to build a lot of churches and chapels to the best degree, always get the theologians guilds. Soon the entire college will be your faction and you will constantly be in the good books. Playing as France, only one cardinal is not French (no cheating). The papal tiara is MINE! Shame you can't ask the pope to send inquisitions to your enemies....

I don't know, my income is at 150k per turn, ever since I conquered all of britain I've been getting alot of money, had over 160k at turn 30 according to the statistics. I am already upgrading as much as I can in all of my cities, got alot of cathedrals, but the pope is never pleased, if I attack a catholic faction I lose 2 or 3 stars (10-15k florins) and another 2 stars if I fail to cease hostilities. Hehe, the papal states are pretty easy to get around, and you can also assassinate the leading cardinals with a good assassin I think, failed everytime so far, but it's doable I think. I have about 4 or 5 cardinals in the college right now, fighting for the lead against Peter the Missionary of HRE.

Only downside of my faction, which may lead to my cardinal not getting promoted after the pope dies, is that I have very bad reputation, in the beginning I made alliances with ireland and scotland and france, and then backstabbed them, ceased hostilities, backstabbed them, ceased hostilities etc. So they wouldn't attack me while I counquered their kingdoms.

Had to pay the papacy military access, map information and 20k florins to get an alliance.

Ah, I don't completely know but I think having a bad reputation might do the trick. In my present game as France I have probably the best reputation (litteraly everyone is begging me for alliances) however I wanted to wipe out England. I did, but got excommed but I got so many cardinal promotion after the english lost theirs and some other faction cardies died that as soon as the pope died I took the papacy, perhaps there is a moral out of that. (At best this shows being buddy buddy with the pope means nothing when it comes to cardinal promotion, or very little. Just get a lot of priests with high piety-burn dem heretics! and build those guilds!-and perhaps you'll be able to sweep the papacy that way). Also if you have 4-5 cardinals in the college don't even worry, the moment you have the papal elections bribe the other cardinals to vote for you and you'll win the papacy.

Everyone hates HRE anyway, they're even ENEMIES with the papal states, I gave Vienna to the papacy after a crusade, and cause it was so damn isolated and was getting attacked I gave it to the papal states, so the HRE started attacking them instead If HRE's gets elected pope I'm screwed tho, when I try to click their cardinal he thinks I should burn in hell.
