Problem patching RTW on Vista

Basically, because of Vista strangeness when I installed RTW it created "Activision/Rome - Total War" folder in both "Programme Files" and "Programme Files (x86)". This caused enough problems of its own since the game is only properly installed in the x86 folder.

Unfortunately, Patch 1.3 installed on the "Rome - Total War" folder in the "Programme Files" folder, but not the one in the x86 folder. And now whenever I go to install the patch in the x86 folder all I get are the 3 options of modify, repair, or uninstalling the patch.

I've already unistalled RTW and so the patch should be uninstalled, but I still get this problem. Is there any way to tell the patch installer to install the the x86 file?

RTW works fine for Vista 64 bit. I installed it (Vista Ultimate Edition 64 Bit) and have had no problems - I did a bit of research (in this forum) beforehand as many people have problems installing onto Vista.

It appears as if the underlying post from #1 has changed. The information about where save games go is useful.

I've run the Tweak-UAC utility which is mentioned in the second article - http://www.tweak-uac.com/home/

When I installed I didn't get any folders created in 'Program Files' but I did in 'Program Files (x86)'.

i got a problem with Rome in Vista home as well, random time after battle it crashes to desktop and appears "Rometw stopped working", that sucks as hell as theres no way to save the battle, then i hot to play the battle again or just give a damn on the whole game. Its modded RS but i dont think thats the problem in installation.

I find that if I fast tab away from a RTW game it can do this. Sometimes the game comes back after a while (the game is 'not responding' on the task manager) and other times I get a window telling me that the program has to close and microsoft will look for a solution.

This doesn't happen if I don't open another window and tab to it.

One time it happened when my anti-virus kicked in and wanted to run a scan.

U got a idea what the problem is? its just "stops working" and tells me nothing but trying to find solution, and...nope never finds, damn..

No, I do know that even on Windows XP if I took a screen shot (using CTRL+ALT+Pirntscreen) and then pasted it into PaintShopPro I could do about 30 images and RTW would just disappear.... This was on my 'other' desktop.

The 'stops working' only happens when I fast tab and not when I am in game.

Do you run the game in Windows XP compatability mode?
