Default A Small Matter of Civil War

Just experienced my first civil war, left me a lot of questions.

    1. What triggers the trait for the King that initates the problem between him and the nobility?

    2. Can this trait be prevented from turning into out right CW?

    3. What decides a general as rebel or royalist?

    4. Is it possible to entice a rebel into neutrality or rejoining his sovreign?

    5. Does the CW only affect generals?

    6. Is it possible to end the CW without killing off all rebel characters or the death of the king?

man, you are lucky. i have never experienced a Civil War, but i tried a lot. My enemies usually end up slicing through me about half way to the civil war.

    Big Brother/King Kong is watching.

ATTORNEY: Can you describe the individual?
WITNESS: He was about medium height and had a beard.
ATTORNEY: Was this a male or a female?
    WITNESS: Guess.

Haha, trust me I didn't consider that good luck. It happened at the worst time when I was facing a two front war against England and Genoa, on top of that all my generals had to be governors to prevent the others from rebeling, thus I couldn't mount any good offensives.

Yup, its in SS. Brief run down. Your King gets a trait that basically states he has somehow offended some members of the nobility. As a result of this trait, some generals have their loyalty increase whilst others have theirs decrease. Then if time progresses the trait progresses into another trait which states that your king inspires civil war. This causes some generals to declare themselves as royalist (increases their loyalty greatly) whilst causing other generals to declare themselves as rebels and that they do not recognise the king as their king (this causes their loyalty to evaporate, to cause strife in any city they are in, and their mobility is incredibly limited, like a milimetre on the screen. Also they say they will never board a boat, never tried so don't know). In my game the king died and after a turn the war ended. However, if anyone could answer my questions it would make it easier to understand what CWs do.

If you like a challenge, it's sorta fun. However, it cost me a general (defected-barely prevented the other 3 from doing the same) and nearly lost me two wars.

    I have one coming now
I thought it would be cool if a civil war could happen and few turns later it did
i'm scots fighting Lithuania in poland, defending jerusalem against Egypt and fighting sicily(excom) around venice and tunis and then the plague hit (hooray for pike defending) plague killed the trade left me bankrupt for a few turns...
to asnwer a few questions and some gueses:
the trait: Offends the nobility(your king has this trait)
    1. King claims Devine right and denounces it, you get into dept(happend to me!), Ascended to the throne by power and not trough bloodline, a kingmaker puts your king on the throne.

now all your family members will decide to obey or disobey your current liege
    obey: increase loyalty.
disobey: decrease loyalty unrest in cities might rebel.
I think they can change in the turns but havn't got solid proof yet.
    2. I think if enough members support you it wont turn into civil war and only a few will leave(ill update later for more proof).
    3. well if they disobey and have very low loyalty they will rebel other will obey and turn royalist i guess (not there yet).
the important generals so far obey my liege they all have important things to do some disobey they are just governers will see what happends.
    4. dont know yet perhaps diplomacy
    5. only family members so far, settlements might rebel if unrest gets to high
    6. don't know yet, i hope mine wont turn into one will see

    ill keep updating!

Great, another civil war member! Good luck with yours, mine only ended when my king died. Looking forward to your updates.

    1. Affends the Nobility, once you get this you know CW is coming.

    2. Dont know TBH, everytime I have had the trait it has reached a CW and I have hade it about 5 or 6 times now through having dodgy Kings.

    3. Their current loyalty at the beginning of the CW, and also some traits like unwatched by King etc etc affect it due to the loyalty decrease also its not only Governors I have had my Prince rebel before.

    4. I dont think you can make a general rejoin unless you manage to get his loyalty up somehow quickly. Only way I have found out is by killing the rebel Generals or the King.

    5. Settlements can rebel if a rebel General is left in side it (this includes the garison rebelling also).

    6. I do not believe it is possible, but im not 100% on that.

Hope that fills in some gaps.

Ya that helps. One question, since you had this happen a couple more times than me is there any similarity with all your kings that caused the war? If you can think of it, it might help us pinpoint what causes the offends nobility trait. Of course, it could just be random, but can't help to try.

I remember a while back in my Norwegian campaign, my King was fighting in the Baltic for a while and a civil war occurred. I brought my king back to the capital to the "seat of power" and the civil war ended. The few generals who rebelled were reconciled after being in a settlement with my loyal ones.

Erm, well most of the time they have very low authority sometimes from sitting in a city for too long not doing anything or being away for too long. But I think its ok if you have left him in your capital.

You just have to search through the trait to see if there are any that could turn negetive ie the drinking one. I just presume that the combination of certain traits causes it but I can't remember the traits my Kings have had when this happens sorry. I normally juat kill him if he is a rubbish king or exile the rebels on a small island lol
