Icon9 Rome Total War - Patching Problems (CRC error)

    Dear all,

I am having serious problems patching my standard (not Gold) RTW installation.

In short, when I patch to 1.1 everything seems fine. However, if I try to launch the game, it says "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart application". I've tried it with all 3 discs...no joy.

So I continue to patch with 1.2 - again, installation completes but I get the same error message.

Things really fall apart when I try and install the 1.3 patch - at the end of the installation (ie the green bar has gone all the way to the end) it brings up an error message saying:

"CRC error: The file .....blah blah blah...doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted"

I then have 3 options - abort, retry and ignore. If I ignore it then I get the same error message but for a different file, and there are hundreds of these things...I've sat there for 5 minutes ignoring them before giving up.

It is a completely legitimate copy, I've uninstalled and re-installed and I'm not sure what else to try! This is the only time I get this error (when pathing to 1.3, so I don't think it can be a memory error).

Any and all advice on this appreciated...it is doing my head in!

    Thanks -

    mcmatt

First of all welcome to the forum.

I presume you have the original RTW on three CD-ROMS?

I've found that when you have a RTW 1.5 install and try and downgrade it to an earlier version it comes up with a similar message (if it's got the RTW 1.5 disc in place).

Is any of the discs damaged?

You can always google CRC error - http://simple-pc-help.com/support/wi...FQLolAodwQc6QA

    Hi -

This is a pure bread, off the shelf purchase from about 5 years ago. So not a Gold edition or anything else, 1st edition 1.0 3 disc classic. What can I say...I fell in love with Shogun War and just had to have it.

    Anyway -

I want to patch it to enable improvements etc so am not going back from 1.5 as such, rather I'm looking to move on from 1.0 to 1.5.

Hey - it works as 1.0 which is fine for single player. I just fancied upgrading to get the latest and greatest. Odd that patches are released that don't work!! If it ain't happening it ain't happening...but one has to wonder about Activion's products if they become obsolete this quickly.

Anyway, tally ho - lovely day.

I don't know if it's any help but according to this post you can simply patch 1.0 with 1.3 and then 1.5 (so you don't need to apply 1.1 or 1.2).

I also have the original 3 CD-ROM game.

    Cheers Brusilov -

Unfortunately that didn't work either. Went straight in with v1.3 which resulted in exactly the same problem...CRC error error and can't find the various files.

Incidentally, the install discs are in A1 condition.

Never mind - I'll just have to live without the joys of v1.1 and beyond

Thanks for your suggestion though, much appreciated.
