    Default Dismount General mod?

Is there any mod out there that changes the General/nobles so that they are on foot? (Both campaign and missions)

Whenever I fight an army consisting of Spearmen, like the Scotts for example, my general always gets killed easily. Also, verses castles, sometimes my commander gets locked out, while my infantry take the walls, he just stands there.

In one historical mission, the English commander is on foot. He looks just like the generic commanders on horseback, but on foot.

Thanks! I've been searching for ages. I just want to give my infantry based army a bit more kick.

If there isn't a mod that exists, and someone is willing to make on, the bodyguard could start off like armored sergeants, and as their armor gets upgraded, they could look like knights.

    Thanks again!

that woul be awesome especially if the general bodyguard is the only cav in the army.
then like it wouldn't look so awkward to have just one cav unit

simply put you edit the export_descr_unit.txt and add "general_unit" to the attributes of the unit you want to use for bodyguard. the general attaches to its bodyguard, he mounts and dismounts accordingly.

How do I get this to work? I found the export_descr_unit.txt from a mod, edited it, but am unsure where to put it.
    Thanks so far!

In your Medieval II Total War/data folder. After that, add the following line to your Medieval II Total War/medieval2.preference.cfg file:
    Code:
    [io]
    file_first = true
However, if you got it from a mod, it will not work, unless the mod does not add or remove any units or factions. What I would do if I were you is run my Medieval II Total War/tools/unpacker/unpack_all.bat file. It requires 7.1GB of hard drive space, but it will allow you to use the vanilla (or ordinary) file. Good luck!

Well, I've been working at it all day, yet it seems it hasn't done anything.
However, when I make a mistake, I can't load MTW, so I know it's doing something

Every time, the bodyguard and general remain mounted.

open export_descr_unit, find the unit you want to be bodyguard (make sure they era footsoliders), edit the attributes so it at least looks like this (no need to delete anything just add general_unit somewhere at the attributes line)
    attributes general_unit,
in descr_strat put this unit as the first under your general, put it above or remove the bodyguard unit that is there.
now you should have a dismounted general
