Default Which values are actaully read for ship battles?

    Hi!

I'm adding new ships for Paeninsula Italica (RTW and M2TW versions) and I want to learn the following things:

What is "flag" ship_type found in descr_ship? For which ships would I use it?

Do you know which of the above tags are actually read and processed by game engine in descr_ship.txt?:

; size size of the ship in metres (10-50)
; speed speed of the ship in kmph (1-20)
; power method of power (sail, oars)
; artillery artillery type (flame, rock) - this should refer to the engine_db eventually
    ; ram (yes, no)
; durability damage ship can take before sinking (0-20)
; armour armour value of ship (0-20)
; depth how much water it draws (in m), depth of water needed to operate
; beam height of the sides, (for boarding, firing archers ect)
    ; carrying_capacity

I believe game engine is not reading all those values. Am I correct? In that case I can leave generic values for those that are not read. Which values are read by game engine? I would say speed and carrying_capacity are read - any else?

When I create in the EDU a new ship - for example triakonter, as "light battleship", what values are actually calculated when it comes to naval battles?:

    [CODE]
    type triakonter
    dictionary triakonter
    category ship
    class light
    voice_type Medium_1
    soldier roman_crew, 15, 0, 1
    ship light battleship
    attributes sea_faring
    formation 1.2, 1.8, 2.4, 2.4, 3, square
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 6, 0, no, 0, 0, melee, blade, slashing, none, 25 ,1
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, no, no, no, none, 25 ,1
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 2, 5, 0, flesh
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 0
    stat_ground 0, 0, 0, 0
    stat_mental 8, normal, untrained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 603, 115, 20, 30, 170
    ownership roman
    [CODE]

As much as I know battle calculation between two ships is made by game engine only on the number of soldiers the ship has written in EDU. Right? Are any other values read by game engine like primary attack and primary armour?

Any info on the matter will be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure morale bonus and hit points are taken into consideration for auto resolve. As well as the attack and defense, I think...

Thank you Eothese! Can anyone else confirm this?

I don't know for sure, but you could try lowering all values and increasing one one at a time during testing. If the battles are resolving differently you can safely assume that value is figured in... obviously test multiple times...

The only problem with testing, is that auto resolving the same battle several times can produce several different results, you would have to do a lot of testing and keep a lot of detailed information about each one to make it clear. Having said that I'm pretty sure some of the more highly experienced modders know a lot more about this. Several of them have Q and A threads, you could try your question in one of those threads...

Okey, thank you guys - I will try my luck here:

Obviously I don't have time for testing which variable is read by game...

Aradan answered me about which values are read in EDU for autocalculated naval battles:

There is beam height of the sides, carrying capacity, depth of wated needed to operate, speed of the ship etc somewhere?

Yes, it's in descr_ship file. Looks like developers wanted to make a little bit more in-deepth naval battles then they are now but failed to do so. In any case it seems to me due to the test I made that those values are not properly read. Atleast carrying_capacity tag which if you set to 0 or 10 doesn't make any change in-game: units can still board ship regardless of 0 value given to carrying_capacity. Am not sure about other tags but I guess they are also not read by game engine.
