Default Kind of sad what happens with towers..

I have been playing MTW2K for about two years on stop, but is just now that 'even when seeing an epic game' we will never stop finding bugs and things that doesn't work properly.

I talk about AI units behaviour with my towers, lets say my army have one tower and three sets of ladders, while they have four units or archers on the walls, what are they going to do? simple, try to burn my tower while the rest of my units are freely setting up the ladders.

I hope this will get fixed in Etw...

    What do you think

Do you have any of the AI mods?

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty,

and may posterity forget that ye were
    our countrymen."

And what is wrong with trying to burn the tower whilst the ladders are unhindered? Units using the ladder arrive on the walls one by one; units using a siege tower arrive en masse. It's far easier to defend against units climbing over the wall with a ladder than it is a siege tower. Hell even peasant archers can hold back dismounted knights if they're arriving by ladder.

Ladders are indestructible, only the units holding them can be killed. Having your archers fire at laddermen while a tower is rolling toward your wall is pointless. The tower, at least, can be destroyed.

I think LuiSius' point is that the archers can be picking off the carriers of the ladder, thus having fewer men to fight once the ladders arrive at the wall.

So the question is: Is it better to use flaming arrows for an extra chance to flame the tower, or would it be better to divert that firepower to picking off ladder-bearers? Seems some think that flaming the tower is a good choice, since troops coming up the ladder are easy to beat. I do not know, but would tend to agree.

I always had the feeling that if two identical units attack your walls, one with ladders and one with a tower, and I deffend the walls with the same units, the ones attacking with the ladders are causing a lot more problems then the guys with the tower.

But I think its more usefull to attack the tower with flaming arrows. The leader bearers are spread over a big area, so its hard to kill them. I dont know if the ladders block some arrows... might test it.

If you hit a ladder thats up against your wall with a mortar, the ladder goes flying off and everyone on it dies...

What the AI is going is correct. Your tower is A LOT more of a concern that the scaling ladders. Any defenders on the wall get a HUGE advantage over any enemy scaling the wall, so peasants can therefore take on DFKs for example. However, towers mean that the soldiers will arrive at the wall at the same level as the defenders, with more men attacking and the same time, and therefore are harder to defeat.

    That's just my two cents

I always try to get a mortar/trebuchet to take out siege towers as they are the ones that inflict the most casualites (sp?) .

Anyway i heard somewhere that ladders can be kicked off the wall ?

Well in RTW it happens some time, that all the enemies climbing the ladders fall downward and die. I dont know how to do this: but it happens some times Dont know if this 'feature' is still present in MTW:2, I never saw it.

Actually, they can be... but the unit has to attack it from the ground... so it's kind of pointless unless there's a break in the siege (say a small army gets annihilated attacking, but there's a large reinforcement coming and you want to bottleneck them in the gates).

Hey that is awesome i never knew that, but then again i never really needed it. Anyway is just me but i find it almost impossible to destroy the A.I towers with arrows. Is this just to give them a bit of an edge?

Perhaps... I usually just stick a trebuchet in each settlement. 2 flaming hits and they're toast (if not from burning down on the first hit). No worries about towers anymore! Of course this is kind of taking advantage of AI stupidity too since the entire army walks right up to take massive siege weapon punishment, but pretty much everything in this game is taking advantage of the AI.

You mean like putting more than 7 units in an army?
Jon had taken Donal and Benjen’s advice to heart: Sam may be fat and pathetic, but he is still a member of the watch, and one of the few black brothers who isn't a rapist or thief. (out of context, this sounds ridiculously racist)
