disband them in a city and u get more population
no that doesnt work in MTW2 i believe.
Peasants work great to reduce the enemy's morale. Just position them up wind of the enemy. Peasants be the only critters what stinketh above the measure of the cammel. And, if you have a unit in a stack with a general you never have to worry about an Inquisitor visiting you - or princesses or diplomates or merchants, either. However, the plague and death will still come to abode with you.
I seem to get the same reward every now and then, I guess it has to do with your highest barracks with the highest number of troops for recrutment, in the other hand peasants are great for manning the battering ram.
Peasants are great fun, just swarm other units with them, their fast attack speeds prevent other units attacking! 4ish units of peasants can take on something like Armoured Swordsmen!
Peasants can make good fodder. As Venice I once got 5 units of Caroccio Standard as a reward. Come on, seriously? I know they're good but 5 units is a bit much.

i find it funny when it says finest unts available and it gives me peasants. Im just left thinking "so peasants ARE better than Khassaki..."
No. Only certain archers can, like Longbowmen and Yeomen
Well, peasants can deploy stakes in kingdoms, so maybe you are wrong...
If they can deploy stakes they can kill and rout a general.

Peasants are great.
They have low upkeep and price. What you do is create 2-4 stacks of peasants and auto-resolve any fight you throw them in.
They would butcher just about anything(they are also easy to replenish and the cost of those multiple stacks is about equal of one stack of "quality" troops).
Spear Levies and Spear Militias can work just as well, maybe not as cost efficient.
And both peasants and "el-cheapo" spears also can be combined easily, the point here is not what unit is used, is the cost and quantity. In other words, take the cheapest (recruitment AND upkeep) unit available and spam it in huge numbers, then autoresolve a lot.
Not even the most elite and fully upgraded unit stack in this game that can beat four stacks of rubbish troops in autoresolve(and the elites would still cost more!).
Funny thing, last night I saved England(they were down to London and Winchester) from Scottish and Irish invasions, with two stacks of Polish/German peasants and a Mercenary Cog.
<played in SS 6.1 with AOR Colonies submod>
darthmod has peasants that deploy stakes
Peasants are amazing units against medium-quality troops. Not so much for combat, but the morale effect. Spearmen or whatever will rout when charged by a few peasant units, even when all the charges are head-on.
I had a nice battle where maybe 10 units of peasants and 2 jinetes completely annihilated an army comprised mainly of desert raiders/archers by causing them to rout within 2 or so minutes and then running them down with the jinetes and general. I even had a chivalry general, and was playing SS (which has extra morale for all units).
Jon had taken Donal and Benjen’s advice to heart: Sam may be fat and pathetic, but he is still a member of the watch, and one of the few black brothers who isn't a rapist or thief. (out of context, this sounds ridiculously racist)
