As a peacekeeping nation, Russia was obliged to act as it did. Russia has tried to defuse the conflict and was unbiased towards the conflict parties.
Russia did what it had to do, but they did a bit more than necessary. No big deal however.
As long as there are American troops in Iraq or Afghanistan for whatever reason, Russia is entitled to invade any country it wants.
Russia had an interest in keeping the conflict alive. Finally, they invade the sovereign state of Georgia under the pertext of defending their citizens. The last step was prepare for months.

Well, yeah...Russia has waited for the proper moment to show it's self and see what others think about it...Now we can wait for more "peacekeeping" operations...The roll of the cat. Georgia was the bird in the cage, Russia the cat lurking outside just waiting for the bird to attempt to flee its cage so it could jump on it.
