    Paeninsula Italica beta 0.71 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

    Sorry to all those who have problem installing the mod due to not very detailed Luciano's installation instructions that were included in the download!

    First extract zipped PI_RTW_BI_v071 file.
    Inside you will find PI RTW_BI v071 folder. Open it and here you see BI and PI folders together with Paeninsula Italica shortcut file and "read me before set-up" file. Copy BI, PI and Paeninsula Italica shortcut into the MAIN RTW folder. NOT IN RTW/BI!!!
    When promped to overwrite click on yes.

    After that extract Garves_PI_Music_Pack.
    Inside you see PI folder and "Set Up Garve's Music Pack.txt" readme file.
    Copy only PI folder in MAIN RTW FOLDER and overwrite.


    In order to avoid main menu lag I hereby quote Benz282's instructions (NOT NEEDED WHEN YOU APPLY 0.72 VERSION!):

    Right-click the "PI" shortcut, select "Properties", and in the Target line, add "-show_err -mod:_PI -nm" without the quotes and without the underscore between mod: and PI..

    Your Target line should now read: "...\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -show_err -mod:_PI -nm" or something like that (again, take out the underscore between "mod:" and "PI". I have to use the underscore on here because otherwise it would show up like this: "modI"

    In the "start in:" line just copy-paste what you have written in the "Target line" but without this last part of the text:
    RomeTW-BI.exe" -show_err -mod:_PI -nm" ---> so that you have something like this:
    "...\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War

    Start the game from PI shortcut.

    And now tutorial of how to activate a 4 turns per year script when you enter the campaign (needs to be done each time!)
    (NOT NEEDED WHEN YOU APPLY 0.72 VERSION!):

    When you pres esc this appears - click on the encircled questionmark:


    Then press on encircled "show me how" button -> 4tpy script is activated.

    By the way, Luciano had the little PI shortcut in Italian...Programmi, so make sure to change the target line. Also if you have the cd burning program Nero installed you will get a ctd so you must uninstall Nero.

    Yep, I updated the above post with full installation instructions. It may seem complicated to the ones not used of mods but's it's quite easy really.

    Next patch will simplify installation!

    Is this serious? First time i read this in relation to a mod installation. I don't see a senseful constraint ... what's the problem with Nero and PI?
    I fear this will keep me from installing the mod

    Also, i'm d'ling just right now, and seeing the instructions on post 1, there comes a bi folder that overwrites bi vanilla files? Right?
    This would be another no-go for me.

    Can somebody enlighten me:
    - Does the mod installation overwrite vanilla files? EDIT Nevermind, i've read the posts, so no overwriting, great!
    - Does it work with Nero installed in different hd partitions?

    Edit: Dl 0.71+0.72 finished, now the music pack.

    Any chance for this exam? Very low, because the established Anthropocentrism destroys the basis of existence.

    It overwrites one vanilla file: BI_Intro_640x480 --> I suppose you don't need to watch it any more do you

    Sure it work with Neroinstalled - on any aprtition you want to! I really don't have a clue why Lou337 came out with this Nero conclusion which is in addittion not true. Well, I hope you manage to get it to work.

    Next patch isn't that far away...

    Hey mate, all works perfect. I just installed it manually without the BI video folder Only strange has been that my desktop-display was messed up after i first started the mod on the default resolution that comes with your preferences. Then i copied a preferences that i use (ie. resolution for a 1650 widescreen monitor), and now everything is okay.

    And the mod is amazing so far, very immersive You fill actually a gap in the world of the TW mods. Although origin i thought the PI scenario would start at an earlier stage around 400 bc :hmmm: ... however, the reflection of all the PI factions, peoples and tribes is great.

    Some notes:
    - events file, i think you know either you just delete the content of the file or you put in your own event triggers. Now the bi events pop up (i'll remove the event triggers for now)
    - edb, i did some instant changes (no bigs, only construction times and some costs and some boni alternated) as quick job, but it makes the game much more realistic and challenging and immersive (if you are interested, i can send you the file, then pm me).
    - edu, i recommend to realise a troop number modding, ie. giving all non line infantry lower numbers (especially the skirmishers ... i would have done that already, but i don't know the types/names of the vast crowd of your created units )
    - combat balancing, i noticed that the simplest infantry troops are too strong vs. Cavalry, a charge doesn't struck them down, they mainly stand up after trampled, and i would subtract one point from the light skirmisher missile attack, they bring down too many with one volley imo..
    - The AI formations file, which is in use? AI tends to attack not entirely as army but charges with one or two units, so have nearly no chance to win a battle in ca. 1:1 ratios, only if the player is completely outnumbered.

    All in all, a great first release after all these years, congrats to everybody who is involved and my greetings to Signifier One whom i know since a few years, in times as the original RTR forum was very active.

    Good that you made it work DaVinci! Thank you for all the nice words!

    Event file has been fixed.

    I made some changes in EDB to (see changelog for next patch below) but I'm interested in what you have done for sure, send me the file!

    If you are really interested in adjusting unit soldier numbers and think you have the will and time to do this then just PM me and I will help you (will also send you a new EDU!).

    EDU has been balanced by Aper - he did a great job. I'll send you the file, let me know what you think of it. Aper didn't had the time to balance javelins to so if you want to be the men for the task then you are welcome! Of course every result you are about to bring with javelins needs historical backup and argumentation and not just I "feel" javelins are to strong, etc. Aper thought none of the javelins should have AP atribute and he wanted to raise theit attacking value - atleast the values of heavier javelins.

    The AI formations file in use is Sinuhets. I personally haven't experienced much of what you are saying and regard this AI as very good but if you have any knowledge on the matter please advice how to change and if you have the will then you are ofcourse more then welcome to do it yourself

    DaVinci, you are warmingly invited to contribute to the PI mod.
    Next patch is not faraway, you might want to wait until I internally release it before you make any changes to the files (I'll send you the link).

    Paeninsula Italica New Patch Changelog


    New historical ships added for better naval experience.


    3 different cultural influences added to emphasize the importance of cultural influences in ancient world and to make gameplay much more interesting. (is still WIP, Luciano needs to give final judgment on it).


    Etruscans have their own culture now with their own music (they don’t share the music with other Italics any more).

    Ligurians belong to barbarian culture now.

    All BI historical events removed.

    Added Alexander's death historical event.

    Brigand and pirate spawn occurs less but pirates now occur more often then brigands.

    Fixed a bug in export_descr_advice file that was causing the advisor pop up whenever the pre-battle scroll opened.

    Added new culture specific GUI’s (interfaces) for almost all cultures (barbarian culture retained the old one).
    Added 2 new songs from Garve: newbattle2 used for Etruscan battle and new_battle_unknown used for Roman battle.

    Health bonuses not appearing for all factions fixed.

    Construction cost for colonization buildings was changed. Prominent and culture specific bonuses were also added to colonization buildings to make their establishment worthwhile.

    Base farm level has been adjusted according to the actual quality of the farming soil in PI’s regions. This diversifies the economy and makes players use different approaches for each faction. Samnites have poor soil with little farming income while prominent Etruscan farming areas give very high incomes to the player.

    Historically correct resources have been added to every region on the map. Players can now see what kind of economy was present in certain regions of our mod's time (is a WIP, currently only 2 more factions need to be finished, so the project is almost at it's enclosure).



    Watchtower building cost made higher to simulate watching over the borders wasn’t such a cheap endeavor as vanilla game suggests.

    Port building costs considerably higher.


    Building barracks costs more and they have a law bonus - each tier has higher bonus.

    Population_growth_bonus has been removed from all the markets since we already have too high growth.

    Road building cost and time raised considerably.

    Building cost and time for mines raised.

    Building cost of all temples doubled.

    Piracy building tree added.


    Towns Parma, Ancona, Ravenna, Ariminum, Aleria and Olbia have bigger garrison to prevent them from rebelling to fast at the start of a campaign when the AI is in control of them.

    Italiotae faction received few more garrison units to be able to defend against enemies better from the start of the campaign.

    New and more balanced EDU:
    - Different weapon types have different lethality which is in addition also affected by unit’s training and overall quality.
    - Hoplite and other spear units stand much better against sword units – their attack value of spears has been increased for +4 to compensate for hardcoded -4 attack value they get when confronted to sword units.
    - Hoplite shields were given additional +2 points to better simulate the effect and protection of closely packed units.
    - All hoplite units have new soldier radius to make them keep the formation better.
    - Chariots have proper voice now.
    - Number of charioteers in a unit is considerably smaller now – only Celtic factions retained bigger numbers of charioteers.
    - The results of auto-calculated battles are now realistically balanced.
    - The attack value of the Xiphos sword has been raised.
    - All spear units were given "light_spear" instead of "spear" attribute to lower the “pushing” effect of the spear attribute.
    *NOTE ABOUT PATCH CHANGELOG: Other things will be added to it to, mainly some additional fixes for bug reports etc.

    Yes. As it is mod-foldered, as long as you do not have a mod installed that overwrites vanilla files installed in the same directory (such as RS), then it will work without messing up any other of the mods you have installed.

    Well, I must have mods installed that overwrite vanilla files, then. PI works great, but both EB and IBFD now hang at the initial splash screen and give me an error box that I can't get to display except as a choice while alt-tabbing. So what is it that PI installs over vanilla files, can I do without it, and how should I go about unf-ing the other mods? Really don't want to have to do a reinstall.

    Edit: Well, it pays to look around a bit first. After deleting the BI intro movie that PI installs, all three mods work fine. You guys probably want to use the -nm switch in your default mod shortcut and just use the splash screen instead of the movie file.

    Did everything above except for the music pack thing (didn't think it was essential for gameplay), but when I started it up, I didn't get a picture, just a black screen. I could hear music and stuff, but no picture.

    Then you've done something wrong Saprtan198. Try reading the instructions again and reinstall the mod.

    hi guys,

    congratulations for launching this mod.

    I tried to install mod and music files - following your instructions. everything´s fine so far, but
    when I try to start the game I get the message "script error in PI/data/descr_items/:di_spot_items.txt, at line 15, column 9. include file not found in data/descr_items/:di_spot_items.txt" -and game crashes to desktop-

    does PI work with RTW-gold edition? I can´t patch gold edition to 1.6, but I don´t know if this is really necessary... because it´s already patched...

    I hope someone can help me - otherwise I will have to listen to that FANTASTIC SOUNDTRACK only
