    Default US-Serb Relations

Well, from World War 1, Serbia and the United States have had excellent relations. But (as you may know) the NATO-intervention in the Yugoslav wars and the bombings of Serbia severed all relations between the two. In 2001, the new US embassy opened in the US, looking to strengthen relations with a country pushing into Russian influence. But in February, the Serbian ambassador to Washington was called back, after the US recognition of Kosovo. Then, the Serbian populace got angry with protests and stormed the US embassy.

Now a new case is coming out, one about a young Serbian basketballer, who committed a crime in the United States while being with his basketball team. He and someone else mugged someone and got into a fight with him, and (after he returned to Serbia) the kid he fought died in the hospital. Now he is being charged with murder in the United States but Serbia is refusing to hand him over.

Do you think there is a 'cold war' between Serbia and the United States? The American recognition of Kosovo has changed some opinions in government on whether they should be supporting Russia or the West. Fotunately for the West, the current pro-Western government stands.

I know there is a good Serb population in TWC, so how do you feel about the US?

    .
That's the old case, guy was playing basketball for some USA colege, he had a bar fight with some of his mates from team and he accidentally killed one of them in the fight( no mugging involved I think) , he was arrested and latter he was bailed out and he fled the country. Serbia doesn't extradict it's citizens charged for murder, it's the law and it has nothing to do with relations with the USA.

I have only feelings about USA foreign politics and they are well known around here.

Actually relations between Serbia and USA are terrible since the 1991. and break up of Yugoslavia when the USA/NATO started to back up Croats and Muslims in the wars that followed.

How could there be cold war between David (without his sling) and company of Goliaths. Serbia has allways been between West and East and trying not to affiliate itself with none of them, even so-called alliance with Russia is nothing more then mutual sympathy and moral/diplomatical support. I believe that Serbia wan't unconditionally support all Russian actions like this one in Georgia. Western integrations are perspective of Serbia but because those integrations are closely related with Kosovo (and we know what's oppinion of USA and EU about Kosovo) I doubt that we'll soon see any closer binding of Serbia with the West.

I said that, the quote is below

Considering the fact that it's general oppinion in Serbia that USA/NATO are responsible for breaking of ex-Yugoslavia,for backing up our enemies Croats and Muslims, for 3 years of total embargo wich skrewed our economy and my childhood, for supporting KLA terrorists who killed several hundreds of Serbian policemen and civilians in 1991-1999, for 78 days of air-straiking of Serbia, for 78 days without electric power, watter and cigaretes, for self-declaring of independence of Kosovo, for stealing our Holy land...relations are surprisingly good.

Yeah, but Kosovo is barely, barely Serbian. Actually, no. It is not Serbian. 90% Albanian.

I'll admit, my history of the Balkans is a bit rusty, but I know enough to know that the Albanians have been there longer than the Serbs.

You are somewhat correct. Thraco-Illyrian tribes have held onto the region in ancient history, before the Slavic invasions. Illyrians habited modern Albania, so :hmmm:?
In the 850s, Kosovo became apart of the Bulgarian Empire, where it got "Slavic". Most Kosovarians were the strongest opponents against the Romans (Byzantines) and often switched hands between the Bulgarians and the newly-founded Serbian empire. But later, the Serbian prinicpality of Rascia captured the whole of Kosovo. It became incoporated into the Serbian empire and (at Pec) became the host of the Serbian Orthodox Church (I think).
During World War 2, when Italy invaded Albania, the Italians also spread out. Below is the Italian Albanian colony. They most likely moved out to avoid their most likely destroyed hometowns or just to start life anew.

This might explain why there is a big Albanian majority in Kosovo and Western Macedonia.

That's all I know on the subject.

    Errr...no.

They are a Paleo-Balkan people. And perhaps a mixture of Dacian, Thracian and Illyrians. Names similar to the ones used to describe the Albanians were used in the 2nd century BCE by Polybius (Arbanios, Arbanitai with their city Arbon),

And Serbia, be nice to them. If the Illyrians are the Albanians, the below is a picture of what Albania looks like.

It's not important who was there first, Kosovo is internationaly recognized part of Serbia since 1913. thus legaly Serbian land. Only side in this conflict that bases it's aspiration on (false) historical claims are Albanians. Anyway this is OT.

I don't want to argue with you, because you are a Serbian (I suppose) and (just like when I argue with Russians) you might have a biased view.
It is not internationally recognized Serbian land
