Default EU: Rome Vae Victis Expansion Announced

I just saw this on the EU : Rome forums. No extended timeline for Rome though

EU: ROME expansion – Vae Victis announced

"Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears, for I am the bearer of good news!"

New York, USA (August 27, 2008) – Paradox Interactive today announced an expansion for Grand Strategy title Europa Universalis: Rome.

EU: Rome – Vae Victis is scheduled for a digital download release via GamersGate during the latter half of Q4, 2008 and will require EU: Rome to play. Suggested Retail Price is 9.99.

“Most of our releases take on a life of their own after release thanks to more than 100,000 active fans on our forums, said Johan Andersson, Head of Development at Paradox Interactive. “Expansions like Vae Victis allows us to add a whole new dimension to the original game while giving gamers a chance to probe further into those elements of the game that they have expressed most interest in.”

EU: Rome – Vae Victis in short:

    - The dynamics of the characters that live in the Republic will come to life as the men and women have their own personal goals and agendas, which are often in conflict with each other. Will you be able to manage these willful personalities?

    - As a Republic you will now need to take the Senate into the account. Characters will belong to various parties depending on their goals, values and ambition. The Senate will pass laws, which will allow or disallow certain country actions.

Making sure that the party in power backs your own goals, adds another strategic element to gameplay.

Monarchies and Tribes will have their own courts, beware of bootlickers and sycophants who will stop at nothing to replace your divinely appointed ruler with themselves.

    - “Carthago Delenda Est”. Senators will cry out and charge players to perform their duties. Now the Senate or a religious power can give players missions to fulfill, guiding the player through ambitions to experience a rich and rewarding history.

    - Mobilize the Senate to back important laws such as 'Lex Gabinia' to fight piracy or the 'Lex Acilia Repetundarum' to reduce corruption. Players can also enact decisions at various levels, working with regional governors to grant citizenships to a region or a province.

    - Completely revised military AI, particularly in the area of military campaigns. Will benefit experienced players in particular.

    - An overhauled interface making the information more easily accessible for both new and advanced players.

Good, now they are charging us for patches. At least the game will HOPEFULLY be finished.

    More tribes anyone?

    Exactly the point
I don't know why they try to represent this game as some kind of
'only play as Romans' thing, don't they undestand that even fans
of playing on Rome would grew tired and bored?
Such epic-strategies have their strongest point in making it being able to play on many factions (you mostly start on obvious stronger ones but with
your skill progress pick the more challenging ones later on)
i'd be far more happier if they made it as EU3 only changing factions and tech

I only played Romans in short to unlock factions. In fact in 200-300 campaigns, with mods, played Roman factions 4-5 times only.In mods
even Senate button was not good to touch.
Rome is too famous to be interesting
Seleucid or Numidians,Britons for example were at least cool

I do like the VV changes, but I was hoping they would throw in a handful of new factions to add a bit of variety. Especially in the northern European area of the map. Currently it's just a random barbarian mine-field.

    Sounds good.
I see they follow the EU3 way of doing it, releasing expansion packs to fix games.
But as long as it makes the game better then I'm fine with it.

Is anyone else kind of happy about them not extending the timeline? I tend to have found certain Paradox expansions (I'm looking at you NA) to basicly extend the timeline 20-40 years and make a couple minor gameplay changes and they call it an expansion. If they are not expanding the timeline, and they are not expanding the map (it doesn't seem like they are) they must be giving us more features and hopefully better gameplay.

Cautiously optimistic. That is what I am right now. Paradox can make an awesome expansion (Ricky, DV, Doomsday, IN). I'll give them a second whirl on Rome.
(I trust Paradox enough I will probably give them a third if they screw this one up. But I will feel bad about it...)

As a matter of fact, i am happy there not extending the time line. It would suggest to me the expansion is focused more on game mechanics and hopefully adding some good new features. At least this is what i'm hoping anyway. Eventually i would like an expanded timeline and bigger map to be sure. For now though i would be content with noticeable improvement.

Oh I so didn't see this a mile away as soon as I saw 1.3 patch notes...

"A character system that actually matters". Ooh this does indeed look good.

Na, no one even bother to check their characters; in late game it is simply impossible to check every character because you simply "lack" choice.

Well I'm still trying to get my head around the what is the point of the character system.

Ok so, theres my king whos blah blah blah, and there's his rival who I don't put in charge of an army. I make sure my king has as high a popularity as possible... and I make sure no one else gets too low loyalty (i.e. mostly generals really).

To be honest, I think eu rome could be great fun. It's problem is something to do with not enough traits, or not important enough or the general balancing of.

I.e. something a total conversion (not necassarily a different timeframe though obv) could fix, although that would TAKE A LONG TIME, so long that theres a fair chance no mod like that would appear for eu rome at all.

I try to do that in my current Carthage campagin, but the problem is when your empire is too big you simply lack people to fill up every post.

So who care whether the governor has low loyalty or not?? In fact I am welcome civil war to start because more people would appear after civil war.

This game is seriously giving me the shites now, I don't play for the Romans, I play for the Greeks, and they're still misrepresented on the map.

Now they're fixing it and making us pay. Awesome. EU3 was more than playable with just patches.

This better be the best expansion pack ever.

Well HoI and EU2 were quite buggy at first but improved a lot with patches.
I'm not sure if EU:R can be saved though...

Well VV is released and man does it make the game better.
While combat is still not up to EU3 standard, the internal politics has been much improved.
I played as a short round as Rome.
After defeating Epirus and his ally, I found out that one of the Dax(not sure what he does but he seems to control a area instead of a province) was unhappy. After some bad moves from the senate and me ignoring him(giving them titles and seats in the goverment improves loyalty) made him rebel against Rome(which has never happened to me before).
Anyway, he took the southern parts of Rome along with my main army, leaving Rome at the hands of 3000 new recruits in the hands of a newbie commander against 26000 troops in the hands of excellent commander.
I got my butt kicked and that was the end of the republic.

So far I'm very pleased with this.
Judging from my game as Rome I realise that I need to start looking at the characters now to see how they feel(all characters have ambitions now too).
Also the interface is better now too.
