What you do is go into your Medieval II Total War/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign/descr_strat.txt file. Then search for the general in question. You can change the name to anything in your Medieval II Total War/data/descr_names.txt file that is listed under the section for that faction (you will not find this file if you have not unpacked your game; what I mean by this is that you cannot, for example, give the English a French name, or make a new name without editing other files) Also, the children will have the new last name, so long as they do not already have a last name of their own defined. Also, be sure to change the character in question's name on the family tree as well as in his entry. You can find the family tree entry beneath the entries of all of the characters.
