Default Seems to me like a doozie

Ok, so, I waitied to buy medieval 2 until I had a computer that could beast the game. Fastforeward a year and a half, to the point where I have said computer.
I rush out and buy Medieval II: Gold. I get home start installing and decide "Hey, I don't want Kingdoms right now, I'll just install regular Medieval II and do Kingdoms in a couple of weeks." So, press the fastforeward again, this time just about 3 weeks. "Well, this weekend I intend to ignore my wife and play Kingdoms" I said to myself, though my wife and my computer were less obliging. I go to install Kingdoms and first, it wont let me choose where to install the 4 mods. It just creates a folder in program files and starts putting them there. I find that strange because I destinctly remember being at the exact screen that asked me where I wanted to install Kingdoms, when I decided that I would wait for a few weeks. I try messing around with it for a while, ultimatly can't get it to do what I want.
So, then I think "Hmm, I'll uninstall M2TW, and reinstall the whole package." I do that, and then autoplay wont run, and I can only install each section individually. That is too say, M2TW, then each of the four campaigns in turn. Again the same problem, I can install M2TW anywhere I want, but not the mods. I'm irritated now.
I decide to do an experiment, see if I can run the mods in a different directory. Turns out, I can. Now, I go to unpack the mods and play with the battlefield editor, and Lo and Behold! the campaign unpackers and battlefield editor aren't in my files! Or, for that matter, anywhere on the C Drive. I'm almost angry at this point. But, I calm down, and come lurk these forums about where they might be, and all I find is that they should be in the game directory. I decide "Eff this, I'll uninstall the whole game, all components, and put it all in the same effing default folder that Kingdoms wants to go too." I do that. Still no Kingdoms unpacker or battlefield editor. So I go to unpack the M2TW game files, and spend the few minutes it takes for the whole unpacker program to unpack. I go into the \data folder, and there is nothing but the normal subfolders there. I find it odd, so I run a search, looking for "descr_geography_new.db" because that was the full file name in the readme, and being that I hadn't deleted that file yet, it should be in the same location as all of the other files. On my whole C drive, nothing is found. So I run the game. The game quits in the exact same manner that it does as if you do not delete "descr_geography_new.db" from the \data directory. FURTHER MORE, I look at my hard drive usage, and I see the 8 gigs used by the unpacked files.

    Any thoughts?
Please? I'm about at the end of my rope on this one and might go on a ballistic rampage and go kill a bunch of Carthaginians.
