How can I make a link to a website that says "This" or "Here" or something instead of "http://www.twcenter.net/forums/newth...=newthread&f=8" type things?

See the globe on the post box? Put the link in the window that appears.
That will still give just the link. I don't know though I was wandering myself.
Wow I figured it out.

Gives:
You mean this?
(p.s., the 'noparse' tag was used to stop it formatting the first one. Just quote this post to see exactly what i typed...)
The system uses tags to recognize other types of media. They all work by just having text in brackets to start and end the tag. An example would be [IMG]http://image url address.com[/IMG]. The "/" and the other side shows that it's an end tag. This would make an image tag.
So, if you wanted to show an image - say this one, you would want to do the following:
- Find the image you want, and find out it's URL address. It would look like this:
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/chara...onic/sonic.jpg- Then type in [IMG]http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/sonic/sonic.jpg[/IMG].
It will look like this when posted:
There's a bit of a problem with this, though. Directly linking to a website's image is called 'hotlinking,' and it's discouraged. It means that whatever person is paying to have that website up is having the data kind of stolen form them, so generally you would want to add a few steps.
For instance, I put the images I want to show on ImageShack, which hosts images for forums.
Anyway, I've used URL tags, IMG tags, LIST tags, and NOPARSE tags in this post. (NOPARSE tags make the system ignore tags for a while - without them, any instance of [IMG]http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/images/sonic/sonic.jpg[/IMG] would automatically be taken as an image, and you wouldn't see it as text).
It's a bit complex to start with, but it's easy to get used to. If you want to see an example of a post with lots of tags, click the quote button down beneath this post and you'll be able to see exactly what I typed in to get this to work. You can even imbed YouTube videos using tags.
