    Default Lost names

    Hi

    I'm not sure if this is supposed to be in the create-a-new-name -thread but I'm going to take my chances and write here.

    I'm not running mods. The game is patched to 1.3

    I changed the names of faction England - most of them anyway, made a text
    -folder, made a names.txt -file, remade the descr_strat.txt and so forth.

    My game doesn't create it's own
    names.txt.strings.bin
    Instead it creates:
    FactionIntroSubTitles.txt.strings.bin

    The game runs fine and the starting names are okay but once a new english character is made, the names go non-existent. The error seems random, since some characters get names and some don't. I can't see an error in the files and I was wondering if someone could see it or help me create a new names.txt.strings.bin.

    I've put in names.txt.strings.bin from a backup, but it still makes the subtitles stuff. I opened the old .strings.bin with alpacas tool and saved it after adding the lines but nothing happens.

    Could this be because I added:

    [log]
    to = logs/system.log.txt
    level = * trace

    into my preference.cfg and made the file read-only.

    Should all the files handled in this process be read-only?

    Should I make a mod folder for the names only?

    Please don't tell me to go read the threads, since I've been doign that for the past sixteen hours of which I should have been sleeping for at least nine.. I have tried (it seems to me) everything from destroying map.rwm to shedding a few tears. (and yes, I Googled names.txt.strings.bin too... )

    Did you make the changes to descr_names_lookup in the data folder?

    I read from the learn-how-to-make-new-names -thread that it doesn't matter if that file is updated accordingly or not... But yes, I did.

    Well, it didn't work for me unless I had the 3 files with the same info,
    descr_names.txt
    descr_names_lookup.txt
    both in the data folder and
    names.txt in the text folder
    Do you have your data files unpacked?
    Read only is a good idea but not strictly required.
    After altering the text files, a new string.bin should be generated. So alter the text files not the .string.bin

    Yes I have them unpacked.

    I have altered the text files. I meant that editing that bin file was my last resort.

    Then of course, use a mod folder, that way you can back up and check things work in nice incremental steps

    I don't get it.

    Does anyone have an idea why this could be?
