    Default It's unbearable!

I'm watching Lord of the Rings right now on TNT, just the regular (probably shortened actually) version of it. Now, I usually watch the LOTR extended versions at my house, and I have to say, switching back to the regular version is unbearable! So much was lost! I had forgotten how much they cut out.

    Any one else experienced this?

Dude I've been watching it all day on TNT too. It does suck.

I've been tempted to walk to my friends house just to get the extended versions. Too late now, already a bit into Return of the King.

I feel you Pontifex. Honestly though, I don't give the theatrical versions of LOTR the time of day. Once you go...um...extended...you never go back

I've about put it in four times but then a really good part comes on...

Still though, it feels like someone is pressing the skip chapter button or something.

Unless you have a wide-screen TV both versions suck, you know how it says "this movie has been formatted..." that means they use a "pan and scan" technique and that eliminates as much as half the image. It's makes a big ing difference, you are not seeing what the director and cinematographer intended, for example:

The pan and scan can be very irritating for some people too. I can't watch formated movies sometimes because the panning gets to my eyes and on occasion I've actually gotten headaches and nausea.

I love the extended versions for the most part but some scenes in RotK are just retarded, I'm glad they got rid of them. It's great the first time thought, get to revel in Tolkien nerdity, but after that it's boring.

The same could be said about all of RotK instead of just the extended version. Except the Battle of Minas Tirith, which is like a 15 minute long orgasm.

That's not humanly possible, and you would hurt down there afterward.

Yes well whenever I reach the end of any LoTR movie and I start to move on back to normal boring life, I do die a little on the inside. If that counts.

Also, the Battle of Minas Tirith isn't humanely possible either. So they go hand in hand.

    Good, good, suffer...

To be honest, though, I do think that if you die a little inside when a story ends, it means it was a good story.

I get that with a few other good books.

Yeah seriously. If my parents hadn't just bought an HDTV, I wouldn't have even bothered to look at it.

Well I enjoyed the books. Although I thought The Hobbit was much better than the LotR trilogy. To me the movies just lacked a soul. The books had a soul to them. The movies were devoid of that warmth (and chill) and we don't agree on this, but the acting was average to terrible.

Yea, it looks very promising. It's coming out in theaters in late December 2011 though .. they better make it pretty damn good to have us wait that long.

Oh well I can see that. I never read the books but we all know how much movies usually trounce on the books and just seperate the two even more.

Always wanted to read the books, just never got around to it. I hear they're loads better, with lots more content. lots.
