    Default XGM Alexander

    No, I'm not announcing a new XGM submod, I just have a question: If I install XGM to run through Alexander, do the Barbarian Invasion files need to remain unaltered for it to function?

    Changing the BI files might cause problems. If you have BI installed then XGM will use some files from BI, even if you are not using the BI exe. The files used by XGM relate to buildings that show up on the battlemap, and city lighting in night battles. If you change other stuff in the BI folder it probably won't cause problems for XGM.

    The files that concern me are the export_descr_unit, export_units, descr_disasters, and export_descr_buildings.

    Are any of those specific ones referenced by XGM?

    Dang, I saw this and got really excited...
    Only for all my joy to be ripped out from underneath me as I read....
    DBH could this possible be a mod? XGM-Alexander that would be something fun as the mod from rtw was nothing but absolute, whole-hearted, gamer toxic, bullox

    Sorry to get your hopes up there (I couldn't think of a better title). I do agree with you, though. Giving XGM treatment to the timeline covered in Alexander would be awesome. Though I do enjoy it, I also think that it was a huge disappointment, especially in the campaign map area.

    Spartan198 got me too, Alexander24 . Been thinking about this myself for a while. But, the problem is I never really tried Alexander (apart from historical battles). But, intuitively, an XGM "patch" would not hurt at all. Say, a few new units (at least some greek mercs for Persia) modified rate movements, adjusted missile settings etc. Could be fun!

    I don't think those files will cause any problems.

    Alexander24: You might want to take a look at Megas Alexandros.

    You have fingers and a computer (evidenced by your post), so you could convert Alexander into XGM goodness.

    Expand your borders, a mod based on XGM 5.

    True, but I have no idea how to mod (at myself) and with XGM goodness you make if sounds like some delicious article of food.

    DBH, I looked at that mod, but it wont have that xgm flavor.

    Alright if you say so fox I will trust you.

    ME: I was seriously upset when I saw this was not about an XGM mod for Alexander.

    But, I am looking forward to two new mods, Wars of the Diadochi, and this Megas Alexandros since fox speaks so highly of it.

    Sorry I got your hopes up, ME.

    The only problem with "XGMing" the Alexander expansion, though, is that it would only reach a limited group, since production of the actual expansion itself has been discontinued.

    But, just the same, if I wasn't already working with WotD, I'd say "let's put a team together and go for it".

    You are right, Spartan198. I've just looked into Alexander campaign, unit roster, map. Well, not that it isn't fun, but it's kind of shallow. And smoothing the edges would not help much.

    Looking forward to trying Wars of Diadochi and Megas Alexandros.

    Well, the map would have to be changed out for something along the lines of Mundus Magnus, but with everything west of Sardinia, Corsica, and Carthaginian north Africa cut off. Faction count would have to be increased drastically. So on, so on. It could be done, it would just take a lot of work.

    Thanks for the encouragement, and I'm sure the Megas Alexandros team would say the same thing.
