The processor could always be faster but the memory and graphics card should be OK.

I think the game only uses one of your CPUs (hey, I've got 4).

Experiment with the video settings though. Turn down grass and shadows first.

Definately? Thanks that's excellent I would have been really annoyed if it didn't work. Shouldn't have any problems playing the battles or anything?

Well if anything is going to let it down it would be the 8400 its not a very nice card but overall I don't think there should be any problems since Rome Total War is a fairly old game.

    Two things:

1.) Your graphics card is good, but not that great for a gamer. In a recent rating of video cards, (on ARS Technica or Tom's Hardware, forget which) the cards were divided into 26 echelons, based on general overall performance. In the first echelon you have the GTX 280. In the second you have the GTX 260, 9800 GX2 and HD 4870. In the third group, the 8800GTX, 9800 GTX, HD 3870 X2, HD 4850, and others. And on it goes. The 8400M GS is in the twentieth (20th) group down, lumped in with the FX5700, 7300 GS, 9500, 9550, the well-known 9600, X300, and others.

2.) That said, your card would have been bleeding edge technology, say five years ago, and is still "O.K." for the casual gamer. I used to run an FX5700, which is in the same grouping as your graphics HW. So I know that you will NOT be able to run Oblivion nor Crysis, and might even have problems with Halo. Your machine should, however, run RTW fine, if you pay attention to your settings and do not try to run huge battles with all the shadows and details on max.

    I hope that helps.

Yeah it does help I guess. Basically I just have to play around with the settings a bit? I mean I'd try it normally first and see what happened...

Those specs are fine for RTW. Hell, I'm running it on a similar graphics card with 512 MB of RAM, Pentium 4 Intel processor and I can fight 2-3 stack battles with little to no lag.

You are certain? Thanks for that mate. So the battles should all run smoothly without crashing??

Also, what do you mean by 2-3 stack battles? Sorry I am just a little confused by the whole thing lol

That's good to hear though, I'll wait and see when it arrives although you have got me hyped up now .

A stack is like an army. On the campaign map, you move stacks. Each stack may consist of as few as one units or as many as 20 units. Each unit may consist of 1 to 100 men or more (depending on game settings and how beaten up your units are). So a stack may consist of as few as 1 to as many as 2000+ men. To do battle, at least 2 stacks must fight. Sometimes more than 2 stacks on each side will be involved.

So, a "2-3 stack battle" means 2 to 3 FULL stacks, which covers over 97% of your battles. For the other 3%, the computer "delays" reinforcements;" so that there are never too many men on the field for it to manage.
