    Default How to install mods?

Hi, Sorry to sound ingnorant but I tried to install RTR then EB mod for RTW, both times it did not work. Im thinking it saved mods to another place besides the RTW files saved on my pc. What do I save it to (what place) on pc? And do I have to delete all total war programs and then reinstall again?

    Thanks in advance

    Hmm, where to start......

What operating system are you using? Most of the following is only relevant to Windows XP. For Vista it's slightly different but as you've not supplied that you will need to search for Vista in the forum (there are a number of topics that are useful).

Do you run RTW from a shortcut on your desktop? That should show you where the game is installed. Where the game is installed is up to the person that installed it. There is a default location but it's possibe to change that. Generally the default location is on your 'C' drive in the 'Program Files' folder. In that folder will be another one from the Publisher. This will either be 'Activision', 'The Creative Assembly' or 'Sega'. Under that level of folder there will be one called 'Rome Total War' (or similar). it is this folder that you need to install the mod to - it is sometimes referred to as the 'game folder'.

Each mod comes with it's own install instructions. You need to read and understand these before proceding. Sometimes mods will, by default, be set up to install at a default location but during the install process you can change this to where you want the mod installed.

If you have plenty of disc space I suggest that once you get a clean working copy of RTW patched to 1.5 (and maybe RTW BI patched to 1.6) you take a copy of this folder and use it as a base for other mods. Simply copy it to another 'game folder' with a different name and apply the mod to there. I do this for each mod that I install. If I don't want to play the mod any more I simply delete the relevant folder. However, I still have a clean working copy of RTW 1.5 RTW BI 1.6. Some mods have uninstall routines - use those like you would a game uninstall.

Always add the '-show_err' switch to the shortcut target - it may help you explain what "Does not work".....

I have vista, I have already DLed EB mob and its in a seperate folder. Is there a way to send that to the C.drive 'program files' "Rome Total War" , or were exactlly do I paste the copy of Barbarian mod to? or do I have to DL again?

Another question: does the original Medieval total war and Medieval total war 2 games work for vista??

When you launch RTW the version number is shown in the top right hand side of the options menu.
