Norway could lose the bronze medal it won in the team showjumping event after rider Tony Andre Hansen's horse Camiro tested positive for the banned substance Capsaicin, the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) confirmed Thursday, dpa reported.
If the B sample confirmes the failed dope test then Hansen's team drop out of the medal placings and will be replaced by Switzerland. Gold in the event Monday went to the United States while Canada took silver.
Lantinus, the horse of Ireland's Denis Lynch, and Brazilian Bernhard Alves' horse Chupa Chup also failed dope tests while, earlier Thursday, the German equestrian confirmed the suspension of Christian Ahlmann after the German's horse Coester also tested positive for Capsaicin.
The FEI suspended the 33-year-old rider, meaning he will not be able to compete for Germany in the individual final in Hong Kong later Thursday. The same applies to Lynch.
Under new rules, riders and their horses can be suspended if their A samples are positive. The result of the B samples is due to be announced by the Hong Kong Analytical Laboratory on Friday.
All German horses were tested for drugs before they left for Hong Kong at the beginning of August and nothing untoward was found, said the team's veterinarian, Bjoern Nolting.
At the Athens Games four years ago, Germany was forced to hand back its team gold after failing to register medication given to one of the horses.

GREAT! Just more news that China can't host an olympics. The IOC never should have given the olympics to China, they don't deserve it. Chinese are all a bunch of liers and cheaters. This is all China's fault. They doped the horses so they'd win. Well now they're suffering for it. China is full of hypocrits, and I hope they all die.

I think this is a result of the de-centralization of the Chinese government, not the iron fist of the communist dictatorship. China has always been prone to corruption, because of it's large population and reliance on local govenors. The culprits are more likely to be corrupted governors, then up-tight communist dictators.

Maybe if they added some actual sports instead of all this nonsensical horse riding beach volley ball softball bmx biking poppycock they could enforce the rules a little better. I try to watch boxing, basketball, track and field... you know olympic sports... and all I get is horses jumping, ugly women flailing about in the sand, and 14 year old girls flopping around on a mat with a ribbon. I always love this time of year when the good natured public demands our government spend millions more dollars to support our athletes and forgets about Health Care and the Military, and essential emergency services. If I had my way Olympic athletes would'nt even get a kind word and pat on the bum. No sorry I don't want my taxes paying for some lanky welshman to run around for a living.
