    Default Yet another dimension to the fake olympics

    So far we know this;

    The free speech is fake: all the freedom protesters who might have spoken out against China during the Olympics have been arrested, imprisoned, or deported, thereby creating the impression that there is no public dissent in China.

    The weather is fake: Beijing is usually a smog pit with air so polluted that city-dwellers there almost never see the sun. To artificially clean up the air and create the image that Beijing is a clean city (it isn't), Chinese officials ordered the shutting down of virtually all manufacturing plants, coal-fired power plants, and auto mobiles. They've basically shut down Beijing to create the impression that it's a clean city, and when there's still smog, they just call it, "mist."

    The opening ceremony was faked: the fireworks displayed during the opening ceremony were faked using pre-programmed computer generated images. Instead of watching live fireworks, viewers around the world were actually watching 3D computer animation.

    The Internet access is censored: reporters from around the world have all had their internet access censored by Chinese authorities, restricting them from accessing websites that might be "dangerous" (like sites on religion or meditation).

    The singing was lip-synced by a pretty girl to replace an ugly girl: it turns out the beautiful voice singing the opening song of the ceremony did not belong to the face of the girl who was lip-syncing it. The actual singer, it turns out, was a bit too ugly to represent China, so they faked it and replaced the girl's face with a cuter-looking girl who lip-synced the whole performance.

    And now it seems that some of China's athletes aren't even of the legal age.
    Bravo, China!

    But just so I don't get called anti-Chinese or racist or something silly from a Chinese nationalist, I will say this;

    Swimmer Michael Phelps' food is fake: consuming a whopping 12,000 calories a day, Michael Phelps is a junk food junkie powered by empty calories. While you can get away with that when you're 23 and exercising six hours a day, if Phelps continues his ingestion of fake food beyond his peak training years, he'll soon have REAL diabetes and obesity.

    So there.

    1) This was only reported in The Times today (that there is actual proof that she was not of the legal age, that is; there has long since been speculation)

    2) I didn't follow the Olympics much

    Well who in their right minds would have thought 'Hmmm yeh lets give the olympics to China because they wont do anything suspect.' Its the problem of having an authoritarian government with an appauling record on pollution and human rights etc hosting a global event. they will do anything to make themselves look good in the eyes of the world, even if it means cheating.

    Good find Shaun.
    China's used underage olympians before. One child gymnast's front teeth were missing at a previous olympics, and it was explained (re: lied) that she smashed her mouth practising on a balance beam.

    A Canadian female Tae Kwon Do contender was cheated out of her scores because she was due to kick the ass of a chinese oponent her next round.

    Point blank: China cheats. In sports, in business, in civil rights. Ethics is nothing to them.

    To cheat, there first has to exist some sort of internationally recognized fair play policy.

    In the case of the underage gymnast - that would be the IOC. When the IOC starts talking, I'll listen. When some "hacker" searching for cached pages using a Chinese search engine - sorry, I'll pass.

    In the case of business - hey pal, welcome to captalism. Want fair play? Live in Soviet Russia.

    "Ethics" is a useful tool for diplomacy, but it's definitely one of the weaker ones compared to economics and sociopolitical influence. It's like trying to use a donkey plow when you have a goddamn tractor.

    Don't hate the player; hate the game.

    You think the IOC is firmly steering the bucking bronco it's barely riding????.

    Let me know when another body decides to make and enforce the Olympic rules.

    I like how you think ethics counts in business.

    Yeah, I mean it's not as if there is anything at all suspicious about the whole thing, is there?
    Of course it's suspicious - and I'll even be the first to admit if I were to place a large bet on whether or not she was really under age, I'd liquidate everything I have and bet that she is.

    But here's the caveat - you can't just have wild speculations and third party dick waving as part of the official process. Imagine the chaos if heresay could override judicial process. You can't just point at the TV and go "O.J. Simpson is guilty! Look! DNA EVIDENCE!" because until the judicial process decides he is, all that is just heresay and opinion.

    The IOC makes and regulates the rules of the Olympics. You do not.

    When the IOC decides something is what it is - THEN it will be official. THEN it will count for something.

    Yeah, and what page is that, Pal?

    Yeah, the IOC won't do anything, sadly.
    Then I guess all this discussion is pointless after all, eh? GEE, WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED?

    Not pointless at all. Just goes to show how fake the whole Olympics are.

    Pretty sure over 100 national leaders attended along with their respective representative athletes.

    So pretty sure it was real.
