One of Werner Herzog's movies is about a man trying to get a steamship over a mountain in south america, aparently its supposed to be based on a true story but in the story they disassembled the ship before they moved it....when herzog made the film he did not:



This is a picture from the documentry called "Burden of Dreams" that was made about herzogs film. That really is a full sized steam ship that herzog is trying to drag over an actual mountain. Your situation seems very simaler.
