I know schools, libraries and universities help educate nobles in cities, but what structures are good for a military education in castles? I mean what are the buildings that give "basic" and "standard" military education?

Good question, also what bonus's do you get for advanced military eduction?

I would like it to be clarified myself, though I believe it has to do with just the standard castle upgrades.
So a Fortress would give your general a higher education than say a wooden castle of coarse.
I don't believe any other buildings are required within. :hmmm:
Don't hold me to this though.

Various barracks (castles) increase the chance of gaining a military education. Military acedemies in cities can also increase it if you have access to them. Though the most reliable way of increasing military education is just to let them campaign. Heroic Victories almost certainly increase it.
Give a man a fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of the day.
Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
I'm trying my best not to take that second clause out of context... and I'm failing.
I've been able to score several Heroic victories I know what you mean about destroying an army 4 times the size and getting only 'clear' victories. I'm quite certain is has to do with the losses you take - if you killed an opponent 10 times your size but lost more than half your army, I'm quite certain it is (sadly) not a heroic victory.
So needless to say, I find my most 'heroic' victories involve me getting a Dread general to cause a timely rout before my own guys can suffer much damage.
pfft. Who needs a dread general when you have heavy cavalry?
Yeah i am wondering as many here what military building i need to educate my generals in the art of war. In many cases it's just random.I put my young generals in a Fortress where all of the milatery buildings are build and all they learn is "basic militery education" but sometimes is "standart" .Different generals in the same Fortress gets different education. Is it a bug or they are just stupid?![]()
In all honesty just send your generals to war. Don't seige, just engage in massive land battles, making sure the general sees plenty of action (and lives of course). I've got 24yr old generals with full stars.
Best way I found was to keep sending your general into wars/battles where the forces are evenly balanced, or when you have a smaller force than your opponent. Making your general charge the enemy front line helps them get bravery traits, and losing some of your body guards give you extra hit points, and such. Just don't lose your general though
Musthavename sums it up pretty much
I never get the extra hitpoint!
If bodyguards get slaughtered I get these often young generals who are depressed, wimpy and searching for religion!
My court has all these morose twenty-somethings sitting around asking themselves 'What does it all mean....?"
Be patient, and don't lose the whole bodyguard! That won't help you at all! Just lose some of them, not all of them. Although in some cases I did lose the whole bodyguard for my prince, and he never got that trait, I'm quite sure it's in the date folder somewhere to adjust the %.
*Note If you only have your general + 1 other bodyguard, you're still in the clear as long as that bodyguard doesn't die.
Oh, and lets say you face a general with 8 stars with your 2 star general, if you win that battle, you it's highly possible you can get another star
Untouchable - Read the posts above, they all state how to up your command stars for your generals
To be honest, I think the whole "bodyguards gets killed" needs to be handled with more flexibility. It seems to work only one way right now and that's the general gets depressed. It should wary more since different people react differently to same events. Maybe some generals would become tougher because they've survived such battles.
Yeah guys can you help me, all of my generals start off without any command points at all. Therefore, any time my generals face a general with command stars they stick their tail between their legs and retreat. How do i get generals to gain command stars, or even begin with at least one or two!
The best way to get the military education trait specifically is to win a battle against an equal force (the battle odds cannot be more than 30% either way) and take less than 20% losses yourself.
I find it odd that military education would be gained via an actual battle. What someone gains during an actual battle is more rightly called military "experience." Education is something that happens in a controlled environment under a master/teacher/mentor/etc that involves practice, theory, and is the process that prepares someone for the real thing.
But if that's the way things work in SS, than I guess it's good to know that.

:hmmm:Well obviously I thought that there was such a thing as a practical education, and anyway needed a mechanism before the 'Art of War' was actually taught in schools.

Well assuming both have a military inclination, it is sad but true that some people come away from school having learned more than others.
Surprised no one has found any of the War books yet, I certainly have
Anyone got any good books I should add to libaries on the art of war, let me know.
To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer.

Than i guess some nobles are born stupidand the only way to make them good comanders is the battle. For sure heroic battle does the work for me.
Other advice:
Don't lose battles. Don't enter battle and then withdraw just to 'scout' out the enemy. Make sure you kill as many of the enemy as you can, Mounted Sergeants and Horse Archers are excellent for running down routers. Not killing at least 50% of the enemy while losing bodyguards what causes those 'philosophical reflections on war' that makes generals go all angsty. Fight full stack on full stack and don't bring friends. Generally you will get command stars if you defeat a full stack with your full stack, even if your guys are all elite gold chevron knights and the enemy is composed of militia. If you win a heroic victory you might even get 2 stars at once. Park your military-type generals in castles for the first few turns when they come of age and they might gain a command star or two. Build siege workshops, military academies and cannon foundries to gain command stars (general must be present when the building is completed). Swordsmiths, stables and barracks also help, plus they give good ancillaries like Master Archer and Commander of Horse.
You could also play on very hard and fight the whole world off, loads of experience that way.
