Icon5 Limiting Ancillary "Titles" to One per Character?

I've got a question about acillary titles (the ones your characters are granted for staying a turn in a settlement, such as Duke of York, Count of Nottingham, etc).

Is there a way to limit your characters to only being able to recieve ONE title?

My problem is that my conquering generals tend to amass all the titles due to staying in freshly conquered cities for a turn. Then when I try to share them out among my other nobles, the said general gets all cranky (via the "Title Stolen" trait).

    Hoping there's an easy fix!

    Cheers!

I managed to come across someone saying that as long as the character retains a title, removing another should not give him the "title stolen" trait. I must have been dishing them all out. That kind of solves my problem.

Although its possible to do, you generally end up with more settlements than generals, so for instance you may conquer Venice and then not have anyone to take the title as each general already has such.

I have though of a solution, which is to allow all generals to gain one minor title, but let the heir and king get as many as they like. That way they could go to Venice (major title), aquire the ancillary and pass it on to whoever.

However thats alot of moving heir around so not sure whether the overhead for the player is worth it. The other thing is the eight limit. I have made it so that things like chancellor, Master of Horse etc are passed on to loyal generals, rather than clogging up the king, but the limit, and the inability to remove ancillaries is a pain.

As you have noted, as long as a general retains one title, they are happy, if stipped of all titles however they get a bit upset.

That would work for me, but like you said other's might find it a bit too much hassle to be worth it. Is it hard to do?

Yeah i find it a little annoying as it clogs up the spaces for other traits (is it 7/8 max?) and it isn't always easy to get other generals in to swap them. I do like those traits though, just early on they seem to all go to faction leader which stops him getting other traits (hardcoded max I know).

I'm pretty sure the max is 8

I like to send a general into all my settlements so when a family member goes into a settlement they wont get a ancillary that i dont want them to get. If i do want a family member to have a certain ancillary then i will just trasfer it, then when that general becomes terrible send him on a 'scouting' misson and get another general to do the job.

A lot of titles give minus loyalty, which is problematic. If a general conquers a couple of bad loyalty cities, perhaps with some unloyal trait or ancillary he can easily get to loyalty zero.

I would like some limitation like that proposed by the OP, one man, one title. I'm sure this limit can be imposed by modifying the trigger, not that I know how to do it myself. Except the king, let him accrue all the titles he wants so he can bestow them on loyal subjects. Also, he suffers no harm from those minus loyalty titles, so it is a good place to dump them!

I dont think so. I think its quite realistic, actually. Cuz, in reality, quite a lot of the higher-ranking nobility/royalty had several titles/crowns.

For example I believe Juan Carlos I of Spain, IIRC, holds at least the Crowns of Aragon, Leon, Castille, Galicia, etc.

But then again, thats for Monarchs themselves, so perhaps only Faction Leaders (Heirs too maybe) should hold multiple 'ancillary titles'.

Is it possible for characters of different types to pass ancillaries to each other? If it can be done then you could send a diplomat to trade titles back and forth, sort of like original MTW.

I've never thought of trying that (entrusting a title to a diplomat caretaker) before. Will have to see if it works.

Is it possible also to place the title in front of the noble's name too? Like when you grant Gregory Darley the Duke of Exeter he becomes Duke Gregory? Or like how it works in the text overhaul mod and place his title below his name (as it does for Heir to the Throne and Overseer). Or, ideally, both. Now I'm asking a bit much!
