The donations over all table put Paul at 3rd. The donations from soldiers abroad had him at 2nd.

There's tons of fuzzyness in these numbers, which the report acknowledges. I think the clearest thing they presented was how the same data changed from the 00,04 & 08 cycles. That is the only chunk of data that is conclusive and it shows Obama is getting much better percentage of the donations than Gore or Kerry (at least in the $200+ range).

Equating this data to military personal's political preferences is not very accurate. I think a direct poll would be needed.

It's probably not Marines that are donating money.

    Yes, but did they donate?

And I don't know your situation, but being a new recruit in this time in the war, along with the environment of the military I think would stifle or remove a bit of the more "liberal" population you would be talking to...

For the last ten years the military has been more or less conservative-backing, because the Republican Party has traditionally been more willing to spend money on defense, and therefore its citizens in uniform.

As a 'new recruit' myself, I certainly am in no mood to see a man like Obama elected and the vast majority of my fellow --now Marines -- candidates were of the same attitude. In fact, the only one who was outspokenly pro-Democrat and pro-Obama joined to become a JAG, not company-grade.

Why wouldn't they be? At least any more or less than other branches?
Well, for one they make a lot less than other branches. Two, Marines have a tendency to favor Presidents with 'aggressive' foreign policies.

What do you expect, he's the one who wants them to come home and offering them the chance not to die.

So Marines are some how representative of all Branches of the Service with in the U.S. Armed Force's ? The Article actually list's marines as the only unit where McCain hold's a (Small) lead. All other branches of services favor Obama.

That's because Marines always itch for a fight.

    3. And many many more that have just gotten back or are getting ready to go.

It's probably not Marines that are donating money.

    Yes, but did they donate?
I know some of them did, yes. But I'm not sure if all of them have or not.
You haven't been on tour and you haven't talked to every marine.
Well I guess I have to ask every single member of the military to get a good idea of the dominant political oppinions of Marines right? I guess any polls I see from now on are worthless unless they ask every single person represented huh?
