does this mod have named and numbered legions eg. like 2nd augusta
Yes it does. But feel free to name them yourself. Like mine are Legio IV Hope of Echo, and Legio V Echo Strikes Back, and I even have Legio VI Return of Echo![]()

The legions are numbered and can only be recruited at 1 location each. ie each province has it own legion, you cannot get them replacements/retrained anywhere else!
best mod for the roman faction militarily speaking by far.
no thy are not the same as the once in RS, thy don' t have there own shield and the other stuff.

RS is definitely more precise and historical, but think of this - in SPQR you can easily give them your own names, whichever cognomen comes across your mind, use it. For instance, I keep tracks of my legions, dont mix troops together, so i can easily write down notes about every single legion correctly. And their names? Usually name of a very successful general who lead them, something connected with a particular battle and so on. For instance, whenever they win a VERY difficult battle, I give a legion cognomen "victrix". See a few examples here:
Legio I "FLAVIA IVLIA IV VICTRIX"
Legio II "VIBIA IVLIA IV VICTRIX"
Legio III "QVINTA IVLIA FELIX V VICTRIX" (Felix because they fought one battle without a single loss)
Legio IV "FORTVNA III VICTRIX (Fortvna because their very first battle was against FIVE elephant units and like 4000 soldiers and they still were able to win, after one hour battle, almost running from the battle at one moment and suffering heavy losses though)
Legio V "CARINA GALLICA IV VICTRIX" (Carinus was a famous general, gallica because they fought like ten battles against gauls, defending our western frontier)
Legio VI "MACEDONICA II VICTRIX"
And heres the example of notes I keep for "everydays life" of every single legion:
I. Lucana, 215 BC. Reinforcing Legio III when attacking Hannibals army (Hannibal – 4061) with 3088 men. CLEAR VICTORY. Kills: 1349. Losses: 504. Legion status: on duty, 2614 men (30 healed). Hannibal is finally dead and his outrageous pillaging of Italy is over! For the exceptional bravery of the first legion in this battle given cognomen „VICTRIX“.
II. Calabria, 215 BC. Attacking two carthaginian armies (Theophanes – 4159, c. Himilco – 877) with 2614 men. CLEAR VICTORY. Kills: 3350. Losses: 564. Legion status: on duty, 2135 men (85 healed). Reinforcements: Quintus Julius and Legio III, c. Cassius (1325 men, 227 kills, 773 losses). For the exceptional bravery of the first legion in this battle given cognomen „VICTRIX“. For the exceptional leadership of Flavius Julius will be the third legion forever remembered es „FLAVIA IVLIA“.
III. city of Taras, 215 BC. Facing a rebel garrison sallying from the city (c. Appius – 3697) with 2140 men. HEROIC VICTORY. Kills: 3691. Losses: 532. Legion status: on duty - weakened, 1684 men (76 healed). Conquering city of Taras, citizens enslaved.
- Taras, 215 BC. Legion reinforced.
IV. Bruttium, 214 BC. Attacking a carthaginian army (Abdeshmun Arsinoe – 922) with 2155 men. CLEAR VICTORY. Kills: 730. Losses: 8+5. Legion status: on duty, 2142 men. Carthaginians were finally banished from Italy, hopefuly once and for ever.
V. Lucana, 213 BC. Attacking a rebel army (Herius Thrasea – 953) with 2144 men. CLEAR VICTORY. Kills: 953. Losses: 4+1. Legion status: on duty, 2139 men.
- Asculum, 211 BC. Legion reinforced.
VI. city of Syracusa, 210 BC. Facing a carthaginian garrison during an attack on the city walls (Theages – 1885) with 3102 men. CLEAR VICTORY. Kills: 1882. Losses: 74. Legion status: on duty, 3038 men (10 healed). Conquering city of Syracusa, citizens enslaved.
VII. Sicilia Poeni, 209 BC. Defending against two carthaginian armies (Carpophorus Baecula – 1178, Hanno (king) – 2529) with 3058 men. CLEAR VICTORY. Kills: 3154. Losses: 616. Legion status: on duty, 2513 men (71 healed). 3 units of elephants destroyed! Enemy king, foolish enough to face our mighty legions, have fallen under the powerful blows of roman swords, banishing him to the Underworld! Conquering city of Lilybeon, citizens exterminated.
- Sicilia Poeni, 209 BC. Our pater familias, noble leader and brave commander of Legio I, Flavius Julius, has been cowardly assassinated! Such outrageous crime wont go unpunished! The one who have commited such unseen crime must be hunted down and tortured to suffer and die slowly and the nation paying his expenditures will suffer from roman anger till final everlasting defeat!
B. General JULIANUS CORVINUS – on duty (209-?)
- Lilybeon, 209 BC. Legion reinforced.
VIII. Sicilia Romanum, 209 BC. Attacking a rebel army (c. Abdeshmun – 242) with 3058 men. CLEAR VICTORY. Kills: 242. Losses: 0. Legion status: on duty, 3058 men.
IX. Aetolia, 206 BC. Defending against two greek armies (c. Theos – 2639, Cleomenes of Sparta (king) – 2865) with 3060 men. HEROIC VICTORY. Kills: 5227. Losses: 746. Legion status: on duty, 2380 men (66 healed). Enemy king, foolish enough to face our mighty legions, have fallen under the powerful blows of roman swords, banishing him to the Underworld! For the exceptional bravery of the first legion in this battle given cognomen „VICTRIX“. Conquering city of Naupactus, citizens enslaved.
- Sicilia Poeni, 205 BC. Justice after all! That agent of evil, who dared to kill our noble pater familias Flavius Julius has been caught and „interrogated“. After long hours and days of unseen torture, as his black soul was leaving his body, he whispered his name, Abydos Ibera, and also information about who have paid his expenses. Carthaginians are to be blamed and no true roman shall rest until all their cities are burnt, their nobles slaughtered and their so called culture wiped out and forgotten. Only then will dear Flavius rest in peace. Carthago delenda est!

Yes you can name them, but it's done through the files though.
Go to: program files / The Creative Assembly (or Activision) / Rome Total War / Data / Text and search for export_units.
Then search for Roman_Legionary_Cohort_1 (and for the Republican Cohorts)
You'll see this:
{roman_legionary_cohort_1} Legio I Imperial Cohort
{roman_legionary_cohort_1_descr}
Hardy\nCan Use Testudo Formation\nSapping Capability\n\nRoman legionaries are tough, professional troops with good armour and superb weapons. Their hallmarks are discipline, obedience and tactical flexibility. When approaching enemy fortifications, for example, they can use the turtle formation, or testudo, overlapping their shields for protection. \n\nEvery legionary’s flexible banded armour, the lorica segmenta, is of very good quality, as is the rest of his gear: a metal helmet and a large curved shield. They fight with two throwing spears (the pilum, plural pila) and a short stabbing sword, the gladius. Each pilum has a soft iron shaft behind the piercing head that is designed to bend as soon as it hits a target, making it impossible to pull out and throw back. Embedded in a shield a pilum hampers an enemy. Embedded in a man, it usually kills. Once the pila have been thrown, legionaries close and continue fighting with the stabbing gladius.\n\nThe lorica segmenta armour was adopted because it was cheaper to make and offered more protection as the earlier chainmail.
{roman_legionary_cohort_1_descr_short}
Well-armed and armoured infantrymen, who go into combat flinging heavy spears that are followed up with hand-to-hand attacks.
You'll need to edit this line:
and make it:{roman_legionary_cohort_1} Legio I Imperial Cohort
And voila, named legions.{roman_legionary_cohort_1} Legio I Germanica![]()

you have named legions without editing too
just wait for the marian reforms (imperial palace in italia or sicilia) and then you'll first have republicans, later imperials
(i have a rule: only imperials when i have conquered Roma)
have fun!
Valerius Tiberius
It dosent make sense to me though for SPQR to have Imperial Legionary Cohorts because they weren't Imperial then....
you mean that SPQR faction has imperials from the start?
i know, but we can't make it so that they only start to make imperials after marius, so they ahve them from the start
if we gave them hastati from the start, you would have a civil war against hastati
we don't want that, do we?
Valerius Tiberius
So give them Republicans lol. Because aren't they the Republic?
I agree with Echo, I would rather see massively boosted (exp. 9) republican legions standing against me than imperial legions, thats silly - Senate, fighting against your imperial ambitions with imperial legions? Lol! However, it would be even more realistic, because how could you explain that Rome and the rest of the empire use at the same time different kind of weaponry?
If you want them to have Republicans it's very easy to mod, just have a look in the descr_strat file and change their armies.
