Default The Appearance of Units with upgraded Armour

I was surprised at how different certain units look if you upgrade their armour.

I was playing the Britannia campaign on kingdoms and I upgraded the armour of some Scottish Highland Nobles to see what they looked like. To my surprise they were suddenly wearing chainmail like armour and had lost their large skullcaps and tartan garbs- Surprising! They now looked pretty ordinary- the original ones where much more distinctive.

The second unit was the Welsh rhyfelwyr heavy infantry. These guys lack good defense, so in a custom battle I upgraded a unit of rhyfelwyr's armour. What did I get but an ordinary looking chainmail armour unit transforming into a colossal, plate armoured juggernaught!

Meanwhile there are some units that don't change at all when you upgrade their armour- the Welsh Saethwyr longbowmen for example don't change in appearance at all.

Post more examples of units that change a lot/dont change at all when you upgrade their armour if you like.

Indeed. I intend to plunder their uniquely armour plated arms for a selection of my mod's units in the near future.

I also forgot to mention Noble Highland Archers after having their armour upgraded. They look similar to Highland Nobles in upgraded armour; they are clad in chainmail rather than tartan! Call themselves a Scottish unit! (Although I did read somewhere that kilts weren't around in Medieval times ).

Another big change is in England's Armoured Seargants and Wales's Meirionydd Spearmen. Firstly their in chainmail, but following an upgrade they are clad in skull caps and studded leather armour.

Yeah, some of those Byzantine units look pretty awesome in full mail armor and the like....same with some of the HRE and Venetian units (if I remember correctly, barely played as them at all anyways)

I never noticed they change when they get upgraded, gotta check that out. Do they do it in Custom Battle mode too?

The scale mail that the Latinkon switch to also rather rocks. If you switch the armor around (cloth to mail) for the Fire-Throwers is nice too, and of course the Ninja Dismounted Lancers.... I love using the Byzzies partially because they look damn good, the only ugly unit they have is spearmen.

Oh yes, Conquistadores (and Cuirassiers/Demi Lancers/Aventuros/Aventuriers/Reiters) have upgraded armor that gives them a look like super bad-ass killing machines in my opinion too. I once for fun modded an army combining them to have a uniform armor type and was that ever intimidating!

Playing as the moors (I keep wanting to call them ahlmonds or however that was spelt) most of their units dont get much armor upgrades. But nubian spearmen with their one upgrade go from half naked to totaly covered in cloth. Desert archers and alot of other units just look a little bit fater because they just wrap an extra cloth around their torso. You have to look really hard to see what the extra armor did to them.

You want to call them Almoravids.
The main body of my army are Janissaries, these get their slight bit of textile
which was not covered with light mail covered with Chain when you upgrade, not a big thing.
But its the "auxiliary" units, like naffatun, ottoman infantry or Sipahis (mounted or unmounted)
First they look like villagers ,then like villagers with padded cloth, and then like STEEL BEASTS! lol.
Na, its really shiny when you upgrade them, they look like quapukulu armour then.

naffatons need the armor for how slow and crapy they are

Leave it to the modder to perfect the works of the paid developers for no profit at all.

Italian Spear Militia with good armor look like Sergeant Spearmen. Actually they ARE Sergeant Spearmen.

I have never really noticed any difference between the starting armour and the end result of the upgrades, I guess I should start looking into this, time for some custom battles to see for myself.

some of them are really noticeable
like DM huscarls go from cloth to chainmail. sami axemen from kingdoms go from padded cloth over mail to a full plate behemoth
but some are just lame, like berdiche have the same armor through their normal, bronze, and silver upgrades
