    Default Mongols...

Hi, I'm searching for a mod that will best allow me to play as the Mongols, in whatever incarnation I can (Golden Horde, etc.) Are the Mongols paid better attention in this mod than in Deus Lo Vult? Don't get me wrong, Deus Lo Vult is a great mod for what it tries to do, which is give the game more of an RPG feel, but almost no work whatsoever was done in that mod on making the Mongols feel like actual Mongols and not cookie-cutter crap units and generic culture/buildings. Broken Crescent seems to do an ok job on the Mongols, at least more so than DLV, but again you can't play them at all in the campaign and the focus is definitely not on them. So, does Stainless Steel do the Mongols justice in the campaign?

You can play as the Golden Horde in the late era campaign but not early, i think they use the vanilla rooster and are still Islamic. However there are a few sub mods that people have made that changes the Golden Horde

to be honest, Im a mongol fan as well, and you should really edit their export descr unit file, specifically the unit pool refill rate.

I say this because without increasing these rates, the Mongols will pretty much die after about 20-30 turns, once their massive starting armies die out. On average, their pools take about twice as long to refill

Well, the mongol improvement mod sounds a bit promising, but I also wanted general changes to the appearance of the faction I guess, like skins and stuff. I almost think that I'm going to have to go back to Medieval 1 to get the kind of experience I'm looking for, or even The Mongol Invasion expansion for Shogun. I guess I'm just looking for a much more Eastern experience with the Mongols, not this feeling that they're a tacked-on reason for creating invading stacks. Broken Crescent was kinda sorta headed in the direction I was looking for regarding the Mongols, but the Mongols are only playable in custom battles, no campaign, and anyway almost no work seems to have gone into their faction again.

I wonder if somehow I could get the music from the Mongol Invasion into the game, assuming that I was using Stainless Steel?

    and

If I don't like the skins at all for the Mongols, (if they haven't been changed or reskinned from the default) is there any way I can get my hands on better skins and insert them, and if so, how?

Oh, also, this will go under a different thread, but I've had no end of trouble with getting Stainless Steel to work under Steam, so if someone could point me in the direction of a definitive guide to getting it to work with Steam that would be VERY much appreciated.

If you are looking for new skins I recommend these. Vlad has some excellent skins and they work with the ss units. I use them. Some of my mongol screenshots are posted in the screenshot section. Page 73
    Good luck

Just run SS using the launcher provided by CA.
When youve got the launcher open, click on play and then select Stainless Steel.

Normally that solution works for other people, but in my case whenever I tried that it would either crash instantly or it wouldn't run at all, or it would run the regular medieval 2 vanilla game.

Thats strange. I re-installed SS ALOT of times and every time i get those skins, but i usually overwrite it with another, different skin.

So whenever i reinstall i have to overwrite.

Maybe you should try reinstalling, since im 100% sure that those skins are included. Download Y2Y and yellowdog's visual improvement mod even changes the unit cards to show units in those skins

    @ Creslin_black

Have a look at this mod: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=100492. It is called Custom Campaign Mod 1.02 by Unspoken Knight. Quote: "Alternative Grand Campaign: The Grand Campaign with modifications to support playable Aztecs, Mongols, Timurids and Rebels." and much more...

    Hope this helps...

Mongols came out very solid in the SS 6.1 and you should definitely try it.
