    Sounds like typical daytime AI to me! But yeah, I never knew that. I thought they just added command stars and prevented reinforcements. All the more reason to love night battles now, I suppose.

    What happens if you're on the receiving end of a night attack? I've never fought a battle like that, but I assume the AI can do that?

    Next we will have someone suggesting flaming flying pigs launched from catapults mounted on the backs of war elephants - yeah bring em on.
    That's an awesome unit idea! We should give them the ability to teleport around the battlefield too, that'd be the ultimate badass unit.

    That was the main objection I had with them, really. The dogs would continue to hound your troops even after the handlers have fled, and tany killed dogs will automatically respawn in the next battle. </3 I'm not so fussy about historicity, as long as they added some flavour to the game (I had no problems with the druids or vanilla Egypt, for example).

    IŽve been playing the Greek City States campaign (XGM 5.7.22; H/H) and I have to say the idea of the square formation against those Scythian Horse Archers and other cavalry units seem to be a very good solution. Scythians gave me some hard lessons near Tomi and Buridava even if I did all the right moves at the battlefield there were just too enemies to handle. Finally those bridge battles helped me enough to give me an initiative.

    I have used these kind of combinations against the Scythians:





    As you can see I have used Greek Hoplites and Thorakitai to protect those Cretan and regular Archers, Rhodian Slingers and Onagers. In some cases I have replaced Onagers with Heavy Cavalry. The idea of a square formation is particularly good when you have to meet the Scythians on the open field battle. Then I have to put Thorakitai and Heavy Cavalry in the row behind Hoplites to secure the right and left flanks.

    They were a fantasy unit from vanilla, it would be horrible to add them back in...

    Well to be fair wardog isn't fantasy, they did used them in wars, even in ancient time.

    There are instances of there use, but not often, and the game engine doesn't represent them well. Not really justified to be a unit...

    oh, those damn orange horse-arches. they spoiled quite a few Thracian campaigns for me. sometimes they showed up before I was able to train enough archers to face them...

    I usually avoid them at all costs. Scythians are not good for my nice Greek armies....

    Well, those victory conditions for the Greek Cities States require to conquer all the Greek cities around the Black Sea including Olbia, Khersonesos and Pantikapaion. Besides the Scythians started the war against my frontier towns in the first place, and they have to pay for it...

    Actually I am creating a new army in Sesamus, Paphlagonia, and I am planning a naval invasion to take over the Crimean Peninsula...
