Try running the installation program manually by browsing your CD drive with explorer. Make sure to right click on the program and select "Run as Administrator"

Also, try pressing Print Screen really quickly on the black window to take a screenshot of the error message it is displaying.

Before you get carried away by the game, where is directx9.0c installed? I don't see it listed. It is required by the game. Directx10 is not backward compatible. If you need it, check Microsoft's download files.

Dx9 does not interfere with dx10. In fact dx10 won't even know it's there.

and one other thing. i love this game and i saw somewhere that you can change the files around to be able to play all the countries and change the time that passes with each turn but im finding it extremely hard to navigate around the files to find what i need to. i dont know if its just me but vista seems more complicated

hey one more quick question. the regular medieval 2 total war game only includes the european map right? because i have to crusaders campeign, the teutonic campeign, and so on but i never once put in the second disk, which was the kindgoms expansion, included in the gold edition. ima feel like an idiot if i do have it allready installed.
