Great trade fair event and great concil meeting

I've seen these two events pop up so far. Each cost money to run. Is it worth accepting them? If I do accept them, how do they benefit the merchants or priests? Do the merchants or priests have to be in the city or just near by to receive the benefits?

I believe they have to be in the city to benefit but I may be wrong. :hmmm:

If they're not in the city and I decline to host it, will it backfire in any way?

If your agents are within a certain distance of your capaital when you accept the event they have a chance of benefit traits, as does you leader, it you refuse, they all have a chance of negatives.

Thanks Quark. Declined the Great Trade Fair last time, didn't have enough money, already 3000 in the red. Perhaps next time I'll host it despite money being tight.

Accept only if the event is in one of your major cities.

I didn't notice if it actually indicated where the even was being held. Are you saying that it does?

I am pretty sure it says that event is going to be held in Rheims for example.
Or the other cities. So you look if its one of your major cities then its going to be beneficial for your faction.

I have always wandered if it had made a difference! But what about pirates? What difference does it make if i suppress them or not? Was playing as the mongols and the 1st turn got asked about pirates and declined! I suppose this was prob the right thing to do?

Hmm, in my experience this usually leads to a massive economic hit...

It doesn't matter, the traits trigger calculates the bonus or penalty based on the agent's distance from capital.

probably a good idea to make sure you have amended the relevant files re pirates and other events as per gracul's instructions in Expanded FAQ Q.11 prior to starting a new campaign esp Mongols as they start with so much money the pirates event is bound to happen in the first few turns.
